Chapter 20
Cynthia directed Fiona to move Melody's belongings. Although she couldn't stay in the master bedroom, it was satisfying to evict Melody.
As Christopher watched them pack, he furrowed his brows. He followed them into the room and found Fiona opening a cabinet. He stepped forward to help, quickly opening the locked cabinet with brute strength, bending the internal lock. Inside, there wasn't much—just a light blue notebook. He picked it up, opened it to a page, and instantly understood its contents.
"An upright person would never write a diary," Christopher scoffed, yet still reached to flip through it. At that moment, a hand reached over his head to grab the notebook.
"You shouldn't look at a woman's diary. I'm going to keep it safe for Mel," Cynthia said.
Christopher pressed his lips together. He looked at the notebook, wanting to take it back, but decided against it. He stood up and left the room.
Once he was gone, Cynthia casually flipped to a page. After reading the content, her eyes widened, and she almost ripped the notebook in half. It was fortunate Christopher hadn't seen this. She initially planned to destroy it, but reconsidered, placing it back under the pillow with a wicked smile.
"Melody, I'll gladly accept the gift you prepared for me," she thought.
In the hospital ward, Melody received a call from Sheldon, who told her Cynthia had moved into her home and explained why. Melody pursed her lips slightly. She already knew and felt powerless to change it.
She typed a message telling Sheldon not to worry and to stop sending updates. She understood his intention—he was trying to mediate her relationship with Christopher. But she would be divorcing Christopher in a little over half a month.
She had already spoken with the doctor. What was supposed to be a week's hospitalization had been extended to two weeks. She planned to avoid seeing them as much as possible in the final days, hoping for peace.
Back at home, Cynthia finished directing Fiona and had moved all of Melody's things into the small guest room in the storage area, completely taking over the main bedroom. She stood before the closed master bedroom door, turned the doorknob, and found it locked. It was as if Christopher was guarding against intruders.
"Christopher, are you asleep? I've finished tidying up," she said.
"You should rest early, then," his voice came from inside the room.
"Okay. You too. Goodnight," she replied.
Reluctantly, she returned to her room, thinking she had all the time in the world now that she was staying there.
The next few days passed without incident. During this time, Sheldon delivered a new phone to Melody, saying it was a gift from Christopher. She casually tossed it into the drawer by her bed.
"Did she say anything?" Christopher asked, reading documents in his office without looking up.
Sheldon thought, "Ms. Fuller didn't say anything. She just threw it away disdainfully." However, he didn't voice his thoughts.
"She said thank you and that she liked it," he said smoothly.
Christopher raised his head and looked at him, asking, "Was the thank you for you or me?"
Sheldon felt a chill down his spine; his smile stiffened. "Of course, it was for you. I told her it was from you."
Christopher was satisfied and asked, "How long does she need to stay in the hospital?"
"Two weeks," Sheldon replied.
"Two weeks?" Christopher frowned. "I thought she didn't need surgery?"
"She did fracture her bone. Staying longer will help it heal properly," Sheldon explained.
Christopher remained silent, and Sheldon turned to leave. As he reached the door, he heard Christopher give an order. "Order the nutritious meal from Tenko Restaurant to the hospital."
"Got it," Sheldon responded.
