Chapter 72

Although Anthon was concerned, he started the car engine anyway. Turning a corner, he saw Heidi in the plaza with a man and a woman. He recognized the man as Christopher.

Looking in the rearview mirror, he noticed Melody wasn't sitting in the back seat but was bent over, her body leaning down. He frowned in confusion. He had already come out, but Melody seemed to be panicking, as if she didn't want anyone to see her.

"Melody, are you hiding from someone?" Anthony asked.

Melody was about to respond when he spoke again. "The people with Heidi are Christopher and a woman. Are you…"

"I'm hiding from that woman," she quickly answered. "Her name is Cynthia York. I've known her since high school, but we had a falling out. I didn't want to see her." This explanation was truthful. Even if Anthony had asked Heidi, there would be no inconsistencies.

"I see. I almost thought you were hiding from Christopher," Anthony remarked.

"How could I? I don't even know him," Melody responded, trying to stay calm.

"That's true. We were in different departments during college, so I'm not really familiar with him either," he said.

With the conversation diverted, she slowly relaxed. She really hoped she would never have to see Cynthia again.

Meanwhile, outside the plaza, Christopher rushed to Heidi's car and, after scanning the area, muttered, "Where is she? I definitely saw her."

Standing by the driver's side, Heidi rolled her eyes. "Are you looking for me? I'm right here."

She continued with a sigh, "The Fuller family is doomed. The only heir is drunkenly stumbling around in the middle of the day. Oh, that's not quite right. Don't you still have a legitimate brother? Better be careful, or you might lose your position as the heir."

He ignored her mockery, still muttering, "I definitely saw her. Where did she go?"

Heidi was about to ask who "she" was when Cynthia rushed over from behind, held him, and said, "Christopher, I'll take you home. Don't wander off. You might get hurt."

Heidi got into the car and fastened her seatbelt. She couldn't help but remark to Cynthia, "Oh, Christopher is deeply in love with me. He's out looking for me even when he's drunk."

She cringed at her own words as she started the car engine and drove off.

Cynthia was furious and jealous. How had a rival appeared so quickly after she'd dealt with Melody? Heidi had said they were going to be engaged. What was she supposed to do now?

Meanwhile, Christopher stood still, finally hearing Cynthia's words. He said, determinedly, "Yes, let's go home. I'm going to find Melody."

Hearing this, she was even more upset. All he cared about was Melody. Didn't he say he didn't like her? But now, when he was drunk, he'd distanced himself from Cynthia, tried to take her necklace, and was even running after Melody. Cynthia clenched her fists, gritting her teeth in anger, then forced out a bitter laugh and said, "Let's go back now and find Melody."
