Chapter 113: Do You Think I'll Believe That?
โHilda, do you know if Jared is acquainted with Ms. Sullivan? If not, why would she be inquiring about him?โ Maria asked Hilda curiously. Hilda had known Jared for a long time, so Maria assumed she might know his affairs.
Hilda shook her head. โI donโt know, but he just got out of prison, so he probably doesn't know someone important like her.โ
Maria thought this made sense. Heโd been in prison for three years; how could he know Josephine? โI just hope he doesnโt talk too much to her and get us all in trouble,โ she worried. She found Jared unreliable.
โHe wonโt,โ Hilda said confidently. She had complete faith in him.
Meanwhile, Jared awkwardly opened the office door and entered. Seeing Josephine, he grinned.
โDidnโt you say you were at home?โ she demanded coldly.
โUhโฆ I am at home! I consider the office my home now,โ he replied, a sudden idea striking him.
โWho is Hilda Wallace?โ Josephine asked directly.
โWill you believe me if I say sheโs my sister?โ Jared asked, watching her intently.
Josephine chuckled coldly. โDo you think Iโll believe that?โ
Jared gave an awkward smile and confessed, explaining his relationship with Hilda. โHilda and I are just longtime neighbors. Our relationship isn't what you thinkโฆโ
Josephine felt relieved after his explanation. She trusted him, but wanted to hear it from him.
โI didnโt assume anything about your relationship. You two can do whatever you want; itโs none of my business. How presumptuous of you!โ She rolled her eyes, though secretly pleased.
Jared, sensing her change in mood, asked, โHow did you know Iโm here? And about Hilda?โ He was curious how she knew he worked at her company. He was just an ordinary employee; news of his employment shouldn't have reached her.
Josephine stood. โNever mind. You could have just told me you wanted a job; I could have made you general manager. Why be a sales representative? You don't need the money.โ
โI donโt want to be general manager, and I donโt have the time. I only came to appease my parents. Otherwise, theyโd worry. Besides, I have a lot to do, so I wonโt be staying long.โ Jared waved his hands, wanting to avoid the responsibility.
โOh, why donโt your parents want to live at Dragon Bay anymore? Isnโt it nice there?โ Josephine asked, remembering Gary and Hannah's insistence on leaving the mansion.
Jared shook his head. โIโm not sure. I donโt know why they were so adamant about leaving Dragon Bay and said those things.โ He continued, โBut I feel like someone told them something that made them leave.โ
Josephine gasped. โI know! It must have been Xavier! Heโs unbelievable. He thinks Iโll be interested in him because of this. So underhanded!โ
โXavier? The general manager?โ Jared was stunned.
He finally understood why Xavier had appeared during his interview and hired him. Xavier had known about him and his relationship with Josephine all along!
