Chapter 119: You Are Not Worthy

As soon as Zayne finished shouting, the door burst open, and Xavier entered. Zayne broke into a cold sweat. “The things I just said were so disrespectful! What if he heard everything?” he thought.

“M-Mr. Jennings…” Zayne trembled uncontrollably. He offered Xavier a chair. “Mr. Jennings, please have a seat.”

Xavier sat slowly, then asked, “Mr. Carlson, I believe I heard you claim to be the most powerful person in sales. Did I mishear?”

Zayne, stunned, quickly recovered. “Mr. Jennings, I was talking nonsense. Everyone knows you have the final say. Jared’s simply unfamiliar with how things work here. I was merely teaching him a lesson.”

Xavier’s lips curved into a smile. “Well, as long as you know who’s boss.” He gestured for everyone to sit. “Have a seat, everyone.”

As everyone sat, Jared moved to sit beside Xavier. Aware of Xavier’s intent, Jared was sizing him up.

This annoyed Zayne. “Hey, Jared, know your place! Do you think you have the right to sit there?” Zayne coveted the seat next to Xavier, hoping to curry favor for a promotion, and Jared had ruined his chance.

The others glared at Jared, a newcomer. They felt Zayne and Maria deserved the seat more.

Jared sneered. “What’s wrong? Why can’t I sit here? What right do you have to tell me where to sit?”

Lydia fumed. “Jared, stop playing dumb. You’re doing this on purpose! Trying to curry favor? You’re a newcomer! That seat’s for Mr. Carlson!”

The room erupted in criticism, accusing Jared of brown-nosing. They felt seniority dictated promotion.

Jared contemptuously glanced at them. “Don’t project your intentions onto me! I don’t care about you bootlickers. I choose where I sit. Don’t tell me otherwise!”

Turning to Xavier, he asked sarcastically, “Mr. Jennings, am I not worthy of sitting next to you?” Come on, if you dare to play tricks on me, I swear I’ll make you pay.

The others were petrified by Jared’s disrespect. Hilda worried for him.

“Jared! Watch your tone when you speak to Mr. Jennings!”
