Chapter 123: Against the Rules

“No, that’s against the rules!” one of the burly men shook his head.

“Since you can’t,” Jared said, “I’ll just have to ask your boss.”

He walked toward the manager’s office upstairs. The four men were stunned. Jared showed no fear; in fact, he regarded them with contempt.

“Damn you!” they roared, springing forward and lunging at him with their daggers.

Jared waved a hand without looking. A forceful blow struck each man’s wrist, causing them to drop their daggers. Stupefied, they watched as he ascended the stairs. They hadn’t seen him make contact, yet their wrists bled.

Only after Jared disappeared did they regain their senses and give chase.

Meanwhile, in the manager’s office, Felix, cigar in hand, furrowed his brow. Before Steven, the injured leader of the Crimson Dragon Gang, had left Felix in charge, power in Horington’s underworld was evenly split between the Templar Regiment and the Crimson Dragon Gang. Smaller gangs were insignificant. Now, without Steven, Felix dared not act recklessly; they were vulnerable to Tommy’s attacks. Having witnessed Jared defeat Steven, Felix was shocked by his strength, wondering where Tommy had found such a powerful subordinate. Steven, meanwhile, had gone to seek his master, Francis. Francis’s return would restore the Crimson Dragon Gang’s power.

Bam!

Felix was pondering the gang’s future, gazing out the window, when his office door burst open.

Without looking up, he snapped, “Who the hell dares enter my office without knocking?”

He whirled around, his eyes widening in horror. Jared, the man who had defeated Steven, stood before him. Jared, however, didn't recognize Felix. He had only fought Steven at Walter's banquet.

“Are you the manager of Vintage Restaurant?” Jared asked.

Felix, shocked, nodded. “Yes, I am. What can I help you with?”

“Your subordinates told me someone hired them to kill me. I want to know who,” Jared said, pulling up a chair and sitting down.

“Hired them to kill you?” Felix’s brow furrowed, then his eyes widened, and he shuddered. He remembered Xavier’s request to kill someone—Jared.

Before Felix could respond, the four burly men burst in.

“Mr. Lawson, he’s too strong! We couldn’t stop him,” one reported.

Realizing Xavier’s target was Jared, Felix nearly collapsed. He regretted accepting the job, especially for the one million offered. Even the powerful Steven had fallen to Jared with a single kick.
