Chapter 16: Businessmen

โ€œMr. Chance, itโ€™s an honor to have you here. Iโ€™m thrilled about this meeting. Please, have a seat.โ€

To Jaredโ€™s surprise, Raymond wheeled his office chair toward him and offered it. Raymondโ€™s enthusiasm bewildered Jared. Why the effusive greeting? All Jared had done was ask Tommy to introduce them!

โ€œMr. Green, do you know me?โ€ Jared asked, puzzled.

โ€œOf course! I was at Mr. Grangeโ€™s banquet. Your bravery is still talked about. Steven Fisher tried to disrupt the banquet, but you sent him flying with one kick.โ€

Raymondโ€™s excitement grew as he recalled the banquet. Steven had led men from the Crimson Dragon Gang, terrifying the guests. Businessmen rarely engaged in physical altercations. Jared had stepped in, subduing Steven and earning the respect of everyone present.

Raymondโ€™s mention of the banquet enlightened Jared. Now he understood the enthusiastic welcome. He regretted having Tommy arrange the introduction.

Jared replied humbly, โ€œMr. Green, Iโ€™m a sales representative here to discuss a deal. Thereโ€™s no need to mention the past.โ€

โ€œI know, I know.โ€ Raymond nodded eagerly. To his secretary, he said, โ€œEliza, have you finished the contract?โ€

โ€œYes, itโ€™s here.โ€ She handed it to Raymond, who then passed it to Jared. โ€œMr. Chance, please review it. Let us know if you need any changes, and weโ€™ll accommodate your requests.โ€

Jared replied, without looking at the contract, โ€œI trust you, Mr. Green. I donโ€™t need to check it.โ€

โ€œIn that case, letโ€™s sign it.โ€ Raymond quickly produced a pen and offered it to Jared.

Just as Jared was about to sign, Leyton stormed in with Sandy.

โ€œMr. Scott?โ€ Raymond frowned at the uninvited guests. He could only tolerate Leytonโ€™s disrespect because Cosmic Chemical couldnโ€™t afford to offend the powerful Scott family. While Cosmic Chemical had a significant market share, the Scottsโ€™ influence spanned numerous industries, inspiring both awe and fear.

Leyton demanded coldly, โ€œMr. Green, Iโ€™m here to discuss a deal. Our familiesโ€™ talks went smoothly, so why are you signing with someone else?โ€

โ€œMr. Scott, we considered all options before choosing Sentiment Chemical Limited. As fellow businessmen, you understand we prioritize profit,โ€ Raymond explained smoothly.

Leyton glared. โ€œThatโ€™s nonsense! They sent a single salesman, and youโ€™re signing with them? They must have bribed you! Iโ€™m here to close the deal on behalf of the Scottsโ€”an honor you wonโ€™t get again!โ€ His rage was evident. Heโ€™d planned to belittle Jared, only to become the fool. The thought of Jared getting the contract was unbearable.

Raymondโ€™s smile vanished. His tone hardened. โ€œMr. Scott, watch your language. Cosmic Chemical is my company, and I can sign deals with whomever I choose. The Scottsโ€™ power doesnโ€™t dictate how I run my business!โ€

Leyton was stunned by Raymondโ€™s defiance. Frowning, he roared, โ€œYou dare talk to me like that? I could run your company out of Horington in a month!โ€
