Chapter 164: Windfall
Jared intervened, pulling Jeffrey back before he could escape. Hilda arrived, grabbing Jeffrey's hair and screaming, "Jeffrey, you claimed a say in the Cosmic Chemical deal! How dare you lie and use the contract to force me into bed! You bastard!"
She punched him repeatedly, venting her rage while he silently endured. Jared, sensing the situationโJeffrey was blackmailing Hildaโfelt a surge of anger. If he hadn't intervened, Jeffrey would have succeeded.
Eventually, Hilda stopped, exhausted and tearful. Turning to Jared, she whispered, "Jared, I didn't want you fired. That's why I agreed!"
"Don't worry, Hilda. I understand," Jared comforted her, then glared at Jeffrey.
Sensing Jared's fury, Jeffrey trembled, begging for mercy. "I was wrong! It was a joke! We were classmates! I wouldn'tโฆ"
His apologies were ignored. Jared stated, "I don't want to kill anyone today," then, tightening his grip on Jeffrey's elbow, unleashed a wave of spiritual energy, shattering the bones in Jeffrey's arm.
"Argh!" Jeffrey screamed. His arm was irreparably damaged.
Hilda intervened, fearing Jared would kill Jeffrey and return to jail. Jared, heeding her concern, stopped and addressed the shell-shocked Raymond. "Mr. Green, this is your employee. Handle him as you see fit."
Raymond readily agreed to discipline Jeffrey. Jared and Hilda left, confident Raymond would act.
Back at Sentiment Chemical Limited, the sales department was stunned. They verified the Cosmic Chemical contract's authenticity, then stared at Jared in disbelief at his speed.
Zayne, the sales manager, held the contract, aware of its value and his lucrative commission. Despite his animosity toward Jared, he couldn't deny the windfall. Maintaining a nonchalant demeanor, he said, "Jared, you secured this thanks to Maria and me. Don't get cocky. You've passed this test, but the next evaluation remains."
Zayne then took the contract to the general manager's office. Maria followed. He stopped when she caught up.
"How much will you earn?" Maria asked, knowing the commission was substantial.
Zayne grinned. "Been eyeing those Dragon Bay houses? We can look tomorrow. This contract means we can afford one!"
