Chapter 194: Never Too Late

"Why? Why are they so afraid of Jared?" Leyton shouted angrily. "He's just an ex-convict! Why are they fawning over him?"

Slap!

Yoel's slap silenced Leyton instantly.

"Listen," Yoel said assertively, rising to his feet. "From today, steer clear of Jared. Show him respect. You can't go against him now. Swallow your pride, no matter how much you hate him. Revenge can wait. Now is not the time. Agitating him will only bring trouble."

A cold glint flashed in Leyton's eyes as he nodded. Although I can't do anything now, I will in the future.

The Scott family was no match for Jared's allies. If Leyton retaliated, those parties might unite and destroy the Scotts.

Yoel sighed in relief at Leyton's compliance. He patted Leyton's shoulder. "Let's go. Learn from this."

"Ley! Ley!" Sandy grabbed Leyton's legs as he left. Leyton was all she had; she'd betrayed Jared for him and had no one else.

Leyton hesitated, unable to leave her.

"Get lost!" Yoel kicked Sandy aside. "You b*tch! I knew you were bad luck from the start."

Yoel had disliked Sandy due to their social differences, but had reluctantly agreed to their marriage. This incident, however, solidified his opposition.

Yoel and Leyton left Sandy sobbing.

Meanwhile, Josephine drove Jared home. "How did you know the Crimson Dragon Gang was coming?" Jared asked curiously.

"Mr. and Mrs. Chance called me," Josephine explained. "I had my father tell Tommy and Mr. Grange."

"My parents called?" Jared was shocked, then realized Maria had told them. They'd contacted Josephine knowing her connections.

Josephine left, avoiding further contact due to her strained relationship with Jared's parents.

After getting out of the car, Jared spotted Hilda hiding behind a tree. She turned to flee but he stopped her.

"Hilda, what are you doing here so late?" Jared asked, puzzled.

"I was taking a walk," Hilda replied, then rushed off. "You should go home; your parents are worried."

What's going on with her? Jared wondered, shaking his head as he went home.

Inside, Hannah sobbed while Gary smoked nervously. Franklin, Maria, and Chloe were there, Chloe comforting Hannah. "Hannah, don't worry. Jared will be fine. He'll be home soon!" Despite her words, Chloe looked worried, too.
