Chapter 20: Daydreaming
Jared hadn't told his parents about the ten million dollars because he didn't know how to explain its origin. He couldn't tell them that after three years of imprisonment, he'd not only mastered a unique martial art but also become the overlord of the Dragon Sect. They'd think he was insane!
"Your friend's house? Where is it?" Hannah asked curiously.
"It's at Dragon Bay," Jared said calmly.
"What?" Hannah and Gary exclaimed in shock.
Dragon Bay was Horington's most luxurious area, home only to the rich and famous. Even before Gary lost his job, living there would have been impossible.
"What friend? Not only can he afford a house there, but he's letting you live there?" Gary asked sternly.
"Ummโฆ You wouldn't know him even if I told you!" Jared replied unconvincingly.
"Hmph!" Gary scoffed. "Do you think you can fool us? First, how did you make such a friend? Second, nobody lends out a Dragon Bay house. Did you learn nothing in prison besides bluffing? Get a real job and stop daydreaming!"
Gary, still unconvinced, began dressing for work. He was about to leave when Jared yelled, "Dad, you haven't even seen the house! Why can't you give me some credit? I'm moving us there today!"
Gary had never given Jared the recognition he deserved. Even Jared's university student council presidency, achieved through exemplary academics, was dismissed by his father. It was just Gary's way.
"All right, all right!" Hannah interjected. "Gary, your son's just home. Be nicer!"
After scolding Gary, Hannah turned to Jared. "Jared, I believe you. Take me to Dragon Bay! I've never been!"
"Okay, Mom. I'll get a taxi. Please pack our things!" Jared left, whispering to Gary, "Dad, I'm telling the truth. Come and see."
Hesitantly, Gary packed their belongings.
They arrived at Dragon Bay in a taxi. Two imposing security guards stood at the entrance; even their jobs were highly coveted.
As the taxi approached, a guard rushed toward it, blocking the entrance. "What are you doing here?" he asked, puzzled. He'd never seen anyone arrive by taxi. Dragon Bay residents were immensely wealthy, with their own cars and drivers.
"I'm a resident," Jared said calmly.
"Resident?" The guard scrutinized Jared and his parents, sneering, "I've seen your type before! If you're here for a tour, leave."
He clearly didn't believe Jared. Seeing their simple clothes, he assumed they were commoners trying to sneak a peek, a common occurrence due to Dragon Bay's prestige.
