Chapter 220: I Will Support You
"This is a sacred place! Stop messing around!" William chided Josephine, then turned to Walter and Erasmus with a sheepish smile. The others smiled as well, envy evident in their eyes.
"Mr. Chance, while Abbot Erasmus's daughter's frosty energy has been absorbed, you said she possesses a frosty constituent and will perpetually absorb more. Therefore, frosty energy will likely infiltrate her body again soon," Walter began, but Jared interrupted.
"Abbot Erasmus, your daughter will be fine for now. Her frosty constituent is exceedingly rare. With my current abilities, I can fully remove the frosty energy. However, I hope she cultivates. I'll transform her constituent when my abilities improve. For now, she'll be fine, and I'll regularly absorb the frosty energy from her."
Jared had the ability to completely remove the frosty energy and even keep her eternally young, but that would prevent her cultivation, wasting her unique constituent. He planned to wait until he was stronger before helping her cultivate; however, he also benefited from absorbing the energy for his own cultivation.
"Thank you, Mr. Chance! I owe you a great debt!" Erasmus nearly knelt, but Jared quickly prevented him.
"Abbot Erasmus, you needn't be so formal. I'm here for the spiritual brush and cinnabar rosary; consider this an exchange."
"Saving my daughter is invaluable compared to those items! Please, don't hesitate to ask for my help in the future, Mr. Chance!" Erasmus exclaimed gratefully.
Leonidas approached, mortified. "Mr. Chance, I apologize for my earlier ignorance. Please forgive me!" He was deeply impressed by Jared's abilities.
"Don't worry about it. Now that the matter is resolved, I'll be leaving." Jared wanted to return home and restore his mother's sight using the spiritual brush and cinnabar rosary.
By the time they descended Lagrange Mountain, it was dark. Luca waited at the foot of the mountain. Josephine volunteered to drive Jared back to Dragon Bay, leaving Walter and the others to cram into one car.
"Why are you driving me back at this hour instead of going home? You're a girl," Jared asked from the passenger seat.
"I'm your wife. Who else would drive you home?" Josephine replied, her words unfiltered without others present.
"Huh?" Jared was speechless. "We're not engaged or married! How are you my wife? Besides, I can't afford to marry you!"
"You may not have money, but I do. I'll support you. I've decided on you!" Josephine declared, challenging him with a raised eyebrow.
Jared chuckled. He'd long been attracted to her—her looks, figure, background, and personality were all appealing. However, he hadn't decided to pursue a relationship. Since embarking on the path to immortality, his perspective had changed. His extended lifespan contrasted sharply with Josephine's ordinary life.
