Chapter 247: A Load of Nonsense

"Mr. Lowe, Jared is very knowledgeable about medicine. In fact, he cured my illness!" William told Glen proudly. Jared was to become his son-in-law, so he was proud of the young man's abilities.

"Is that so? He seems very young for that," Glen replied skeptically. He didn't take William's words seriously, believing medical expertise required years of experience. Jared appeared to be in his twenties, making the claim seem improbable. However, he didn't contradict William.

Just then, Helen said, "Sullivan, please stay for lunch. I'm going to cook now."

William replied, "Mrs. Lowe, there's no need to trouble yourselvesโ€”"

Glen interjected, waving his hand, "Sullivan, it's no trouble at all. Have a seat and let's play two rounds of chess. We'll have drinks with lunch!"

William accepted the invitation, sitting down to play chess with Glen. Jared watched, hesitating whether to tell Glen about the Soul Capturing Technique.

After some thought, he decided to reveal everything. Otherwise, Glen might be manipulated by unscrupulous businessmen.

"Mr. Lowe, there's something I need to tell you," Jared said.

"What is it? Speak up," Glen replied without looking up.

"When I examined you, I found you've been subjected to the Soul Capturing Technique. Someone, likely those businessmen, is trying to manipulate you," Jared explained, detailing his discovery.

Glen immediately put down his chess piece and looked up. Staring sternly at Jared, he said, "Young man, are you being superstitious? The Soul Capturing Technique? That's the most foolish thing I've ever heard! Are you ignorant?" As mayor, Glen dismissed the idea, considering it a superstitious trick.

William's expression turned serious. Having witnessed Jared's abilities at Lagrange Monastery, he knew Jared wasn't joking.

"Jared, are you telling the truth? Are you certain?" William asked.

Jared nodded.

William turned to Glen. "Mr. Lowe, Jared understands magical techniques. He perceives things most of us can't. Perhaps you shouldโ€”"

"Shut up!" Glen scowled. "Sullivan, you're not a child. Why would you believe such nonsense from a boy? Soul Capturing Technique? Where's my soul, then?"

"Mr. Lowe, please listen. It'sโ€”"

"Sullivan, if you don't stop, I'll ask you to leave. This is utter nonsense!"

Glen's face was hard. He refused to believe it; a man of his stature couldn't accept such things.

Seeing his stubbornness, William remained silent. Jared also kept quiet.

Helen soon called them to lunch, but the atmosphere was awkward. Glen remained sullen throughout the meal.

After lunch, William and Jared left. On the way home, William remained worried.

"Jared, was Mr. Lowe really subjected to the Soul Capturing Technique?"

"Yes, it's true," Jared confirmed.

"Then you must find a way to save him. A leader like him is invaluable. Though he can be stubborn, he's a righteous and just man," William pleaded.
