Chapter 251: Should Have Asked for More

Shock etched itself onto Glen's features as he listened. Dazed, he grabbed the contract from the bed and was alarmed to see his signature and seal.

"If Jared hadn't intervened," he thought, "the contract would have been processed, and I would have been deemed a criminal in Horington. Worse, I might have been arrested!"

Cold sweat streamed down his forehead as he frantically tore the contract into pieces, his heart pounding with anxiety. The day's events had completely altered his perspective on life.

"Young—Mr. Chance, thank you so much," Glen apologized, his face flushing with embarrassment. "If it weren't for you, the consequences would have been disastrous. I'm sorry for treating you so poorly after your kindness in offering a reminder this afternoon."

"Mr. Lowe, there's no need to thank me," Jared replied with a faint smile. "I'm merely protecting the well-being of Horington's citizens!"

"Mr. Chance, you're such a benevolent man, especially for your age. I wish my son were more like you…" Glen sighed, thinking of his son.

"Mr. Lowe, don't worry too much. People change," Jared comforted him. "Now, what should we do with these three?" he asked, gesturing to Nicholas and the two businessmen.

Glen frowned, staring at the trio. Though they had conspired to manipulate him and exploit Horington, they weren't city residents. Even if he investigated thoroughly, the worst punishment he could impose was banishment—hardly sufficient for their crime.

Sensing Glen's dilemma, Jared said, "Mr. Lowe, I'll handle them. Please rest, and don't go out tonight. Your soul is vulnerable; accidents are more likely."

Glen, still shaken by the events, didn't challenge Jared's superstition.

"Understood. I'll leave this to you, Mr. Chance. When I have time, I'll visit to express my gratitude properly."

Glen left hastily, clearly traumatized.

After he departed, Tommy asked, "Mr. Chance, what about these three? Toss them in the river to feed the fishes?"

The trio was astounded.

Nicholas trembled, begging, "Please spare my life! I have fifty million—it's yours if you let me go! That's all I ask!"

Jared's eyes lit up. He couldn't kill them due to their status, but extorting money was an appealing alternative, especially given his current financial situation.

"All right. Lucky day. Hand over the fifty million and disappear," Jared said indifferently.

Overjoyed, Nicholas transferred the money and fled.

Seeing an opportunity, the businessmen pleaded desperately, "We'll give you money too! Please don't hurt us!"

"You two masterminded this. One hundred million each, and you're free," Jared stated, raising the price given their apparent wealth.

Without hesitation, they transferred the money. One hundred million paled in comparison to their lives. They fled as quickly as possible.

Seeing their willingness to pay, Jared regretted his decision.

"Tommy, should I have asked for more?" he frowned. "They didn't even protest!"

"I guess so," Tommy replied. "I hear businessmen like them are worth at least a hundred billion!"

Jared cursed, "Damn it! Why didn't you say something earlier?"

Despite his regret, two hundred million was better than nothing. He'd gotten it easily. He decided to travel to the City of Herbs once he had enough money.
