Chapter 3: Knocked Down

"Mom, are you all right?" Jared asked with concern after Baldy and the others left. "Those men are gone."

"Why did you have to come out and offend him?" she scolded. "Pick up the money from the floor quickly. It's what we've painstakingly saved."

Stooping, Jared put the notes and change back into the pouch.

"Mom, I'll be the breadwinner now, while you and Dad rest. As for your eyes, I'll find a way to get them treated."

When he finished, he returned the pouch to Hannah.

"I'm glad to hear that," Hannah replied, bursting into tears. "Now that you're back, my mind is at ease. If I hadn't been worried about you, I would have died long ago."

Jared's eyes welled up at his mother's distress.

Bang!

Unable to control his emotions, he slammed his fist on the table.

Crack!

The table shattered.

"The Scotts, the Gibsonsโ€ฆ I will make you all pay," he muttered, a burning rage consuming him.

Sensing his fury, Hannah quickly said, "Jared, please don't cause more trouble. Now that you're back, get a proper job. Everything will work out."

"Mom, don't worry. I know what to do. I'm heading out."

After comforting his mother, Jared planned to confront Sandy. Leaving home, he was consumed by anger. As he crossed the road, a red Porsche sped toward him, striking him and sending him flying.

Bam!

Jared landed hard. His training with Draco likely saved his life.

"Who's the crazy driver?" he roared, his anger escalating after being hit.

Amidst his curses, a woman shouted, "Why don't you f*cking look where you're walking?"

A beautiful woman emerged from the Porsche, wearing a white dress and high heels, glaring angrily at him.

Furrowing his brows, Jared lay back down. "Which of us is blind? You hit me. Despite the pretty face, why the foul mouth?" he retorted.

"How dare you!"

Glaring, she raised her leg to stomp on him. Her stiletto heels were like daggers.

"Josephine, stop."

Just as she was about to strike, a middle-aged man emerged from the back seat. He looked important but was pale and breathing rapidly. After shouting, he leaned on the car for support.

"Dad, why are you down here?"

Josephine rushed to help her father.

"Let's go to the hospital," the man said, and she nodded.

Returning to Jared, she threw a stack of money at him. "Ten thousand. Take it and leave. We have an emergency."

Instead of taking the money, Jared looked at the man. "It's too late for the hospital."

He turned to leave. The man's condition was critical.

"Stop!" Josephine blocked his path. "What do you mean? Speak clearly, or I won't let you go!"

The middle-aged man approached, frowning.

"Your father's condition is dire due to a left lung injury. In less than five minutes, he'll suffocate. Can you make it to the hospital in five minutes?" Jared calmly asked.

"You're bluffing! He just has the fluโ€”"

"Josephine," the man snapped, taking two steps toward Jared. Astonished, he asked, "Young man, how did you know about my lung?"

"You wouldn't understand. I'm busy."

Jared turned to leave.

"Young manโ€”" the man coughed intensely, then grabbed Jared's arm. "Since you can diagnose my illness, you can treat it. I'll pay any price. Here's my card!"

Jared hesitated, but upon seeing the name, he took it. "You're William Sullivan, CEO of Sullivan Group?"

"Yes," William confirmed.

Jared swiftly stabbed his fingers into William's major acupoints, too fast for either of them to react.
