Chapter 301: A Misunderstanding
โAll right!โ Tommy nodded.
While driving and searching for a mechanic, Tommy noticed a red Mercedes-Benz tailing them.
โMr. Chance, we have a situation,โ Tommy remarked, glancing in his rearview mirror.
Jared, turning to look, said anxiously, โFind someplace secluded. This main street is too crowded!โ
Tommy made a sharp turn and sped toward the outskirts of Yeringham, the red Mercedes-Benz closely following.
Realizing they were being followed, Josephine blanched and trembled.
Jared put his arm around her, reassuring her, โDonโt worry. Everything will be all right.โ
They arrived at a secluded area, where Tommy stopped the car. The red Mercedes-Benz behind them braked hard, screeching to a halt.
Jared exited the car, his arm still around the terrified Josephine.
A short-haired girl with exquisite features emerged from the driverโs seat of the Mercedes-Benz. Her round, petite face made her look like a doll.
Jared and Tommy were stunned. She didnโt look like an assassin.
Holding a wrench, she stared at them fearfully.
โWho are you? Let my cousin go, or Iโll call the police!โ Her hand trembled violently as she pointed the wrench at Jared.
Shocked, Jared and Tommy turned to Josephine, whose eyes were filled with tears. Overwhelmed with emotion, she could barely speak.
โFrida, youโve grown so tall! I barely recognized you!โ
Josephine ran to the girl and hugged her.
Bewildered, Frida looked at Jared before returning her attention to Josephine.
โJosephine, y-you werenโt kidnapped by these two?โ Frida asked.
โKidnapped?โ Josephine was dumbstruck. Bursting into laughter, she said, โWhat are you talking about? Theyโre my friends. Let me introduce you!โ
She took Fridaโs hand and led her to Jared. โThis is my cousin, Frida Shaw. Frida, this is Jared Chance and Tommy Lewis.โ
โItโs a pleasure to meet you,โ Jared said, extending his hand.
Blushing with embarrassment, Frida shook his hand. โIโm really sorry for mistaking you for criminals.โ
Frida had noticed Josephineโs terrified expression in Jaredโs arms and, seeing their damaged car, assumed a kidnapping. She had followed them and called the police. It was a misunderstanding.
โThank God thatโs cleared up! You gave me a scare. We thought you were a baddie!โ Josephine replied happily.
โJosephine, what happened to your car? What are you doing in Yeringham?โ Frida asked curiously.
โWeโre here to buy herbs. The carโฆ itโs a long story. Iโll tell you later.โ Josephine didnโt want to endanger Frida by revealing too much.
โIn that case, letโs go in my car. Iโm meeting my sister for lunch. Sheโll be thrilled to see you!โ
Frida didnโt press further, tugging Josephine toward her car.
Jared instructed Tommy, โGet the car repaired. Weโll stay in touch.โ
Tommy nodded and left. Jared followed Josephine and Frida to Frida's car, sitting in the back.
