Chapter 325: Come at Me
Fear didn't register on Renee's face. Fueled by pure anger, she lunged at Dorieus. Unfortunately, she was no match for him. He sent her flying backward with a harsh slap.
"If you wish to kill me," Dorieus sneered, "then obey me. Serve me well, become one with me, and then perhaps you'll get your chance."
With that, he pounced on her like a leopard on its prey.
"You animal! Let go of me!" Renee struggled.
Rip! A large piece of her shirt tore.
Meanwhile, Jared and Leonidas sprinted up the mountain. Jared's speed was so abnormal that Leonidas struggled to keep pace. They soon reached the Phantom Monastery. The dilapidated building filled Jared with apprehension.
"Mr. Chance," Leonidas explained, "this monastery was abandoned before Dorieus took over and renamed it. The monks here are all irredeemable criminals who fled imprisonment."
Jared nodded. Perfect, he thought. I can kill everyone here without guilt! He barged inside.
The monks, who had been cleaning, were stunned. No one ever visited the desolate monastery, making the two strangers instantly suspicious.
"Who are you? What are you doing here?" a monk demanded, jabbing his broom at them.
Diomedes, hearing the commotion from the hall, rushed over. He smirked upon seeing Leonidas. "Senior, I didn't expect you so soon. Have you settled Erasmus's funeral?"
"Diomedes, you traitor! I'll kill you!" Leonidas exploded, charging at the grinning prior.
Jared quickly intercepted Leonidas, demanding, "Where's Renee? I know you kidnapped her. Where is she?" He'd only stopped Leonidas to learn Renee's location.
Diomedes gave Jared a disdainful look. "Who are you? An insignificant youngster? How dare you interrupt?" He assumed Jared was Leonidas's disciple.
Jared revealed the Starry Compass. "I killed your disciple, Falcon, and took this from his dying hand. If you want revenge, come at me!"
The sight of the compass ignited Diomedes's fury. "You murdered my disciple! You'll be six feet under by nightfall!" he spat. "Charge! Kill him and retrieve the compass!"
The monks attacked. Jared raised his hand to defend himself when he heard a girl's terrified scream—faint, but unmistakable. His enhanced hearing identified it as Renee. She was in danger!
"Abbot Leonidas, hold them off! I'm saving Renee!"
Jared darted past the monks toward the hall.
"Stop him!" Diomedes shrieked, trying to block him.
"Traitor! It's time I cleaned house." Leonidas attacked Diomedes with his cane.
Seizing the opportunity, Jared burst into the hall and kicked down the door to a hidden room.
