Chapter 349: Beat You Up As Well
After seeing Tommy off, Jared chuckled bitterly, staring at the Dragon Ring on his finger. "Draco just gave me this without explanation," he thought. "How am I supposed to find all those regiments? I won't be so lucky every time."
Early the next morning, Jared and Lizbeth set out. After meeting Anthony, he had them both disguise themselves before heading to Summerbank to avoid attack by the Jantz family. He, meanwhile, led his team back ostentatiously to draw the Jantz family's attention.
Lizbeth drove Jared to Summerbank without incident. Thankfully, their journey was uneventful.
"It's already noon, Ms. Grange," Jared remarked from the passenger seat, smiling. "Since we're in your territory, you should treat me to lunch!"
Lizbeth retorted, exasperated, "Your death is imminent, and you're thinking about food?"
"Even if I'm going to die, I want a full stomach," Jared replied. "Life's short, everyone dies eventually. So why worry?"
His wide smile visibly relaxed Lizbeth.
"Considering you saved my grandfather's life," she said, "I'll treat you. But we can't go to a large restaurant; we need a small diner to avoid the Jantz family."
"Fine! Let's try some local specialties," Jared agreed readily.
Lizbeth parked, and they walked into a narrow alley filled with small, unique diners.
"I'll get you a Summerbank venison burger," Lizbeth exclaimed excitedly. "The ones in Horington aren't authentic. I'll ask for extra intestinesโyou'll be begging for more!"
It seemed all girls loved food; they always brightened up in such places.
They'd taken only a few steps when three burly men blocked their path. Jared, surprised, realized he didn't recognize them.
"You're Jared Chance, aren't you?" a heavily built man with thick chest hair demanded, his eyes fixed on Jared. His physique suggested training in Impenetrable Skill.
Jared didn't respond, instead looking to Lizbeth. Her brow furrowed, she stepped in front of him. "Who are you? And why do you care if he's Jared Chance?"
The burly man scrutinized her. "Step aside, girl. This is none of your business! I'm Jason Yandell, Iron Gate Academy. I'm killing Jared Chance to avenge my senior!"
He lunged at Jared, but Lizbeth roared, "Stop! I'm a Department of Justice officer! How dare you break the law in front of me?"
"So what if you're an officer? I'll beat you up too if you don't move!" Jason's expression was glacial; Lizbeth's position meant nothing to him.
"How dare you?" Lizbeth's rage exploded. She thought of Tommy Lewis's contempt for the Department of Justice in Horington, and now this, in her own territory? The humiliation was unbearable!
Before she could react, Jason punched her. Despite his size, his speed was astonishing. A whistling sound accompanied his attack.
Shocked, Lizbeth reacted instantly, sidestepping the blow and countering with a swift punch to his waist, a technique that temporarily incapacitated himโa favorite of detectives.
