Chapter 390: Air of Grievance

Exiting the car, Phoenix gazed at the Jantz family mansion. Turning to Jared, she said, "Mr. Chance, you haven't found a place to stay in Summerbank yet, have you? This place looks nice."

Jared nodded, accepting the suggestion. He knew he couldn't continue staying at Lizbeth's, especially now that Josephine had arrived.

Seeing Jared's nod, Lizbeth felt a pang of disappointment. She quickly dismissed the feeling. Jared is my good friend's. I can't have any improper thoughts about him

Entering the mansion, they were amazed by its luxurious design and the antique furnishings. Zachariah's lifestyle was undeniably opulent.

Jared chatted with Josephine and Lizbeth in the living room while waiting for Phoenix and her men to secure the premises.

Shortly after, a Phoenix Regiment subordinate rushed in. "Mr. Chance, Madam requests your presence"

The subordinate's panicked expression caused Jared to leap from the couch. "What's happening?"

"I I'm not sure," the subordinate replied.

Jared immediately left with the subordinate, followed by the curious Josephine and Lizbeth.

They soon reached a secluded courtyard. Phoenix, Tommy, and the others surrounded it, their expressions furious.

"Phoenix, what's wrong?" Jared asked.

"Mr. Chance, see for yourself," Phoenix said, pointing to a house in the courtyard's center.

Jared looked and saw over ten terrified girls locked inside. Their fear was palpable.

"What is going on here?" Jared's brow furrowed.

"Mr. Chance, I've questioned them. Zachariah captured these girls. The oldest is only eighteen."

"Why would Zachariah capture so many girls?" Jared was baffled. "Even if he used them for sex, he wouldn't need this many!"

"They don't know why they were captured. However, Zachariah sent men to select two girls daily. They were dressed and sent awayโ€”never to return. I suspect they're dead," Phoenix said angrily.

As a woman, she felt pity for the girls. Josephine and Lizbeth were equally outraged by the girls' terror.

Jared was deeply disturbed, particularly by the implication of the girls' deaths.

"Have some of your men care for these girls and send them home. The rest, follow me!"

Jared left the house. Standing in the courtyard, he closed his eyes, muttering words. He then swept his hands before his eyes. When he opened them, they glowed red.

He scanned the mansion, his gaze settling on a southwest location. He saw black smoke rising, forming dark clouds that lingered.

"Why is there such a heavy sense of grievance here?"

His expression darkened, and he ran towards the location, followed by Phoenix and her men.

After several miles, he stopped on a patch of freshly turned earth. He found an earring in the soil, then another. A bad feeling washed over him.
