Chapter 51: Just a Lie

“Who was it? Who sneaked up on me?” Steven roared, pulling out his toothpick. Despite his taunting tone, he was genuinely worried. His Impenetrable Skill was renowned; no one had ever harmed him before. Yet, someone had just casually stabbed him with a toothpick! The presence of such a skilled opponent shocked him.

Everyone exchanged glances. No one confessed. Only Tommy stared at Jared with undisguised admiration.

“It was me!” Jared stepped forward.

Steven’s brows furrowed in disbelief. “You? This young man… how is he so strong?”

Josephine rushed to Jared’s side, pulling him back. “Jared! What are you doing? Don’t try to be a hero! It wasn’t you.”

Tommy intervened. “Ms. Sullivan, Mr. Chance will be fine. Don’t worry!”

Steven sneered. “Hey, kiddo, sticking up for him? That kind of confidence will get you killed!”

Jared’s expression remained impassive. “Cut the crap. I’m busy.”

A faint, almost invisible mist—atmospheric spiritual energy forming a protective shield—surrounded Jared. Except for Josephine, no one tried to stop him; they all wanted to witness Jared's capabilities and understand Walter’s respect for him.

“Well, you asked for it!” Steven’s eyes gleamed.

He dashed forward, appearing before Jared in an instant and throwing a punch. Jared remained motionless, calmly watching.

Josephine cried out, “Don’t!”

But Steven’s powerful punch landed squarely on Jared’s chest.

Bam!

The force should have killed Jared, a man barely over a hundred pounds. Instead, Steven’s arm bent at an unnatural angle, the bone snapping from the recoil. He howled in agony.

“You… you know the Impenetrable Skill, too?” Steven was stunned.

Jared sneered. “Just a little.”

No one believed him. If even Steven couldn't penetrate it, Jared couldn’t possibly know only a little of the skill. Josephine stared, her admiration for Jared soaring.

“Who taught you? It’s my mentor, Francis Yancey’s unique skill!” Steven demanded, desperate for answers.

Jared smirked. “I’m not from any school or sect. Besides, there’s no such thing as an Impenetrable Skill. It’s a lie, a trick.” He punched Steven in the chest, sending him flying backward, coughing up blood.

Jared didn’t possess the Impenetrable Skill. His technique, honed in martial and mystical arts, created a shield impenetrable even to bullets, let alone Steven’s punch.
