Chapter 54: Delusional

Back at the Glamor Hotel, the crowd had dispersed after the banquet. Walter detained Jared briefly, saying, โ€œMr. Chance, I need a few more days to obtain the spiritual brush and cinnabar rosary you requested.โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s fine; I can wait. Thank you for your help, Mr. Grange!โ€ Jared smiled. โ€œMy motherโ€™s condition has been like this for a while, so a few more days wonโ€™t hurt. Thereโ€™s no need to rush.โ€

โ€œYouโ€™re too kind, Mr. Chance. Please donโ€™t hesitate to ask for help in the future!โ€ Walter replied readily.

After their conversation, as Jared prepared to leave, Luca approached and knelt before him. โ€œMr. Chance, please be my mentor!โ€

Having witnessed Jaredโ€™s abilities, Luca earnestly hoped to learn from him.

Jared helped Luca to his feet. โ€œIโ€™m not worthy of being anyoneโ€™s mentor. You overestimate me.โ€ He knew his skills were vastly different from those of these martial artists and he couldn't teach them even if he wished to.

โ€œBut Mr. Chanceโ€”โ€ Luca began, but Walter interrupted.

โ€œThatโ€™s enough, Luca,โ€ Walter said. โ€œMr. Chance has already answered.โ€ Although not a martial artist himself, Walter understood the communityโ€™s customs and the rarity of mentorships.

Luca stepped aside, silent.

โ€œPlease feel free to contact me if you need anything,โ€ Jared said apologetically. โ€œBut mentorship? Iโ€™m not qualified.โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s perfectly acceptable, Mr. Chance. Thank you!โ€ Luca accepted Jaredโ€™s response gratefully.

Leaving the hotel and returning to Dragon Bay, Jared found his parents absent. Concerned, he wondered where they could be, especially since they were unfamiliar with the area. He called them, learning theyโ€™d returned to their old house. He hurried back.

โ€œMom, Dad, why are you here? Did you not like Dragon Bay? Itโ€™s a much better environment, isnโ€™t it?โ€ Jared asked, confused.

Gary retreated to his room after a brief glance at Jared. Hannah sighed deeply. โ€œJared, youโ€™ve just been released from prison. Stop dreaming of instant fame and fortune. Josephine is kind, but you shouldnโ€™t exploit her just because you saved her father! You two arenโ€™t suitable. Get a job and stop being delusional!โ€

Jared frowned. โ€œMom, did someone talk to you?โ€

โ€œIt doesnโ€™t matter. Stop contacting Josephine and return the Dragon Bay mansion. Your father and I wonโ€™t stay there. I donโ€™t need you to get rich, but an honest living and a family of your own will make me happy,โ€ Hannah said heavily.

Sensing his motherโ€™s anger, Jared remained quiet, simply nodding. โ€œOkay, Mom. Iโ€™ll listen to you.โ€ He knew his mother had suffered greatly because of him.

Hannah softened. โ€œIโ€™ll have your father ask Mr. Miller to find you a job tomorrow. Also, Mrs. Wallaceโ€™s daughter just graduated and found a good job. You two have known each other since childhood. Iโ€™ll talk to Mrs. Wallace if youโ€™re agreeable.โ€

Although blind, Hannah seemed to have everything under control.
