Chapter 61: Impostor
A deafening silence fell over the office as Jenny and Baldie stared at the calm Jared. Dread slowly crept into them.
"Sir, do you think he was speaking to Mr. Lewis on the phone just now?" Jenny asked softly.
Baldie remained silent. The voice on the phone had sounded like Tommy, but this young man's appearance didn't suggest wealth. How could he know Tommy, let alone speak to him so condescendingly?
Jenny, seeing Baldie's silence, consoled herself, "Mr. Lewis wouldn't know someone like that. He must be pretending. Besides, the person on the other end couldn't have been Mr. Lewis; no one in Horington would dare speak to him that way."
Baldie nodded in agreement.
"Kid, stop pretending! You look pathetic. Mr. Lewis doesn't know you! How dare you use his name to fool us? You'll pay with your life!" Baldie roared.
Jared smirked and ignored him.
"Sir, call Mr. Lewis. Ask him to handle this troublemaker, and find out if he really spoke to him just now!" Jenny suggested.
Baldie agreed, pulled out his phone, and was about to call Tommy when his own phone rang. It was Tommy.
Baldie answered immediately. "Mr. Lewisโ"
"Baldie, what did you do to offend Mr. Chance? Just waitโI'm coming! You're finished at the Moonlight Bar. If you run, I'll find you!"
Tommy's furious voice boomed through the phone, leaving Baldie speechless. The truth was undeniable: Tommy had not only spoken to Jared earlier, but had addressed him respectfully as "Mr. Chance."
Crash! Baldie dropped his phone, shattering it. He stared at Jared, then dropped to his knees. Jenny, equally shocked, followed suit.
"Mr. Chanceโฆ Mr. Chance, I'm sorry! Please forgive me!" Baldie groveled.
Jared ignored him, focusing on transferring spiritual energy to Hilda to restore her consciousness. The drug Baldie had used was potent, requiring significant energy before Hilda slowly opened her eyes.
"Jaredโฆ" Hilda murmured remorsefully. She was ashamed of working as a bar hostess.
"Hilda, are you feeling better? Let's leave," Jared said softly, helping her up.
Hilda nodded, then noticed Baldie and Jenny kneeling. Confused, she wondered if it was because of Jared. To her, he was just an ordinary ex-convict.
"Let's go."
Jared didn't explain, leading Hilda out. [Remove the promotional sentence about the website].
