"He's just gotten out of prison, so reject him on those grounds," Maria whispered, leaning close to his ear. They feared Jared might overhear, but unbeknownst to them, he heard everything. His hearing was far superior to average. Behind them, a man chuckled coldly. [The promotional sentence for findNovel.net has been removed as it is irrelevant to the story.]

"I don't care if I pass the interview! I'm just going through the motions," he thought. Reaching the sales department floor, Maria pointed to Zayne and said to Jared, "Go with him. And rememberโ€”don't mention our acquaintance!" Jared nodded and followed Zayne to the interview office, where a crowd already waited.

The company offered excellent pay and benefits, attracting many applicants, including prestigious university graduates. "Wait outside. Someone will call you," Zayne said before entering. Jared sat down.

"Interviewing too, bro?" a bespectacled young man asked. "Yeah," Jared replied. "Which university? Lots of interviewees are from top schools. See that girl in the dress? Quartz University. That guy with the backpack? Moana University," the young man said enviously.

"Bay Coast Business School," Jared said with a faint smile. The young man was taken aback. "Bay Coast? You're braver than meโ€”I'm from Blue Sky Vocational School!" His gaze was smug. "Finally, someone less qualified than me!"

Jared smiled. A young woman in professional attire approached. "Please submit your resumes. I'll call you in for interviews," she said. Everyone quickly submitted their resumes, except Jared. "Sir, where's your resume?" she asked.

"I didn't bring one," Jared replied nonchalantly. Surprise flickered across her face. "May I have your name?" she asked. "Jared Chance," he replied. She nodded and entered the office. Everyone stared at Jared, judging his outdated suit and lack of resume.

Only the bespectacled young man looked at him strangely. "Got connections? Using the back door, bro?" he whispered. Jared was surprised. "You must be. Why no resume? And the person who brought you inโ€”definitely a high-ranking executive. No wonder you're so calm!"

With a fawning smile, the young man offered Jared chewing gum. Jared took some.
