Jared shook his head. "I don't know him," he said, denying any acquaintance with the young man. He'd never seen him before. However, the young man, Xavier Jennings, a Silverleaf University graduate and Sullivan Group alumnus, had seen Jared. Xavier had even witnessed Jared being affectionate with Josephine. He had pursued Josephine himself, unsuccessfully, before William gifted the company to her. Josephine, not wanting to manage Sentiment Chemical Limited directly, appointed Xavier as general manager. His capable management quickly turned the company into Sullivan Group's most profitable.
Xavier's ambition, however, was to win Josephine's affections. Learning of her association with the formerly incarcerated Jared, he vowed to separate them. Jared's interview presented the perfect opportunity to undermine him.
Zayne, a department manager, frowned. "This is strange," he muttered, but dared not oppose the general manager. "Go and get the onboarding procedures done," he told Jared. "I'll send someone for a tour later." Unsure of Jared's connection to Xavier, Zayne avoided conflict.
Jared, equally puzzled by Xavier's apparent interest in him, wondered if Josephine had tipped him off. He frowned, considering this as he followed an office employee. Outside, a bespectacled man erupted. "Damn! You're an ex-convict! What a bummer! You'll never get the job!" (The following sentence, "Sแดaส*แดh the Findnรธvel.ษดet website on Gรธรธglแด to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality," is extraneous and should be removed.)
Jared merely glanced at the man. He'd initially found him decent, but now saw his contempt. The employee, politely requesting Jared's ID, clearly aimed her words at the man. His disbelief was evident when Jared produced the ID, confirming his passing interview. Jared ignored him, snorting before leaving.
Meanwhile, in the sales department manager's office, Maria confronted Zayne. "What's wrong with you? You said you'd fail him! Now he has the job, and I'm doomed! My father will make me drive him daily!"
"It's not my fault! He's connected to Mr. Jennings, who hired him directly. I couldn't stop it!" Zayne retorted, frustrated.
