Chapter 48
Upon hearing that, Justine scrunched her face in anguish, trying to come up with a comeback. Evelyn shook her head and stopped Justine before she could say anything. She also eyed Tiffany, looking at her at the same time. It was obvious that Tiffany had heard what Lily said earlier.
Evelyn raised her brow and let out a faint “hm.” She then turned to Lucas and Mason beside her and said, “Head in first.” Her elegance and composure made Evelyn seem all the more outdone and humiliated. She could kind of guess what Tiffany was thinking. In the end, however, it didn’t matter. After all, she didn’t want to be with Lucas anymore.
Internal conflicts won’t solve any problem. That whole fiasco also ruined Derek’s mood. Evelyn came all the way here and made such a huge scene. What would Loan think of him now? How was he supposed to continue the...?
Shaking his head, he was heartbroken by what Evelyn had done. He said to Lucas, “Mr. Grant, we’ll meet another day. You…”
Lucas remained silent, his expression even seemed somber… “You must come to my place sometime for a meal.”
Derek hated Evelyn’s reckless behavior even more. Lucas was obviously upset because of this whole mess she had caused. He shot her one last glare, then turned around and walked away.
On the contrary, Lily was rather pleased with Evelyn’s current predicament. She figured that the woman named Tiffany from earlier definitely came from a powerful background. She looked so stunning and capable. The moment she showed up, Lucas’s attention was entirely drawn to her. How could Evelyn possibly compete with that?
Lily let out a sarcastic snort and was about to leave. Evelyn looked at her coldly, “Tad, I say we’re done?”
Lily grew impatient. “Aren’t we?” Evelyn was struggling to hold back her overwhelming rage. She said in a stone-cold voice, “Do you want me to take it to the cops?” Lily’s expression changed slightly.
“Evie!” A big, warm hand suddenly grasped Evelyn’s waist. She had no idea when Blake showed up. He looked at Evelyn with a subtle smile. “Just let it go!”
Blake’s interference made the tension within her even more suffocating. She tried to break free from his grip. “Let go of me!”
He stared at her and said, “Lily is my sister. Can’t you just show her some mercy?” Evelyn found it ironic that Blake, who used to claim that she meant everything to him, was now turning against her. In fact, he fully understood that she did nothing wrong. He simply wasn’t on her side anymore.
A few waiters kept peeking in their direction, curious to see what the commotion was about. Mason was profoundly entertained by the situation that just unfolded. Clicking his tongue twice as he headed back to the private room, he said, “At least Ms. Harrison knew when to back off after being put down. It’s too bad that somebody here couldn’t…”
He shot him a cold glance. He then turned to Lucas, who didn’t seem bothered by whatever had happened in front of him. Holding Evelyn’s waist in one hand, he smiled at Lucas and said, “Sorry about this, Mr. Grant. Evde has always had a temper. Please don’t take this too seriously.”
Lucas really didn’t care about any of this. He merely gave them a thoughtful glance. Blake had managed to calm Lily down, since they grew up together, it would make sense for her to listen to him willingly.
Almost immediately, Lucas turned and went back to his own private room. He couldn’t care about how Evelyn and Lily were going to resolve their…
He didn’t pay a single bit of attention to Evelyn’s fiasco from start to end. “Come with me,” Blake murmured as he noticed that several people kept staring at them. He grabbed her hand and led her outside.
Lily was staring at his tall silhouette as he left with Evelyn. Biting her bottom lip, she attempted to chase after him but was stopped by…
…malked past, and she could hear Tiffany’s voice coming from inside. “My mother will be coming back from the… booked a reservation at a restaurant and wanted to see you…”
“Til let you decide the date and time. It’s no problem at all,” Texas said without hesitation. Early on, she felt humiliated and let Blake pull her toward the rail.
He was hoping that Incat would take time to deal with Leonard and the rejected request outright. He couldn’t bother to give the slightest half-hearted…
Yet, he already planned his next move. He thought that Luna might end up getting a divorce with Evelyn and marrying Tiffany, wasn’t it?
Eve couldn’t quite describe her feelings. It wasn’t a disappointment. In fact, it felt more like irony. That she thought about it, it made sense. How could Lucas possibly deny the woman he loved a proper title?
Blake led her outside the restaurant to the parking lot. She immediately broke free from his grip and calmly asked, “What do you have to say for yourself?”
He leaned against the car door. He understood that she must be furious right now. The people who already betrayed her were her father, husband, and stepsister. And now… still, he knew that he stood above all of those people in Evelyn’s heart. She would still listen to what he had to say.
He knew Lucas wouldn’t do anything to do with Lily, Blake said as he lit a cigarette. “Everyone can tell how much he cares about Tiffany.”
By then a moment passed. He was right, and everyone thought so too. “Taxpac Lily, she’s still my sister. I couldn’t just stand there and do nothing.” His gaze seemed relaxed as he said that, but the look in his eyes was serious when he glanced at her.
He believed that the series of events that happened today wouldn’t faze her one bit after some time. He really was defending Lily. I had taken everything from Evelyn. Besides, not only did Evelyn lose her home and Naomi both. She had also suffered so much because of the mother-daughter past…
It used to hurt him so much that it left him heartbroken more than once, often holding back his tears. He then swore that he would climb to the top and protect Evelyn with all his power.
…mthing this hurtful in such a calm manner. You’re saying is, even though you knew that I wasn’t in the wrong, you’d still side with Lily and expect me to let this slide? Evelyn chuckled softly, a profound pain piercing her heart as she looked at him and added, “You’re the last person I thought would ever say that.”
…nwach lind her line trying to save him once, and he was just going to pretend none of that ever happened? Arguing all the time, he turned around and was about to leave.
Station Elacorredato his nonchalant expression. He put out his cigarette and asked, “Want to grab dinner sometime? How about this weekend?” Evelyn was still upset, but she always had a childish temper. Taking her out for a meal and chatting would be enough to make her feel better. She took a deep breath, and was going to turn down his offer. “No-…
…nd. I have something coming up this weekend, I’ll talk to you soon.” He suddenly recalled that he had plans to watch a game with Jessica… to spend time with her that day so he couldn’t make time for Evelyn…
No need to explain to her that he would be with Jessica. Otherwise, she would throw a tantrum—and that would be difficult to deal with.
“It’s okay.” Nhu noticed his hesitation. She wasn’t planning to grab a meal with him as the timing didn’t seem right anymore.
Indeed, it wasn’t appropriate, not as siblings, nor as someone who had almost ended up with him. Blake frowned as he watched her wrapping her coat around herself and left. He suddenly felt that she had changed.
Evelyn had spent her entire adolescence with him. He was one of the most important people in her life. He was even her first crush. He knew how much he meant to her. Back then Evelyn was a bright and cheerful lady under his protection. She had been possessive of him and would mind when there were other women around him. Which is why what happened involving Lily today, she must have felt jealous of Blake taking her side. That was why she was acting so cold toward him.
It probably wasn’t the fact that she had changed; she was just using the same old tricks. Kodnasterapiles as be sorted our blah doubts and finally decided not to interfere further.
