The Compor family’s sip-and-see party was very grand. Guests arriving to congratulate them kept streaming in. The Connors were an eminent family, related to a wealthy family like the Grants. It was only natural that the party attracted many guests.

When Evelyn came upstairs, Tessie was welcoming guests. Upon seeing Evelyn, she waved with a smile and asked, “Why are you alone? Where’s Lucas?”

“He’s parking the car downstairs. He’ll be right up,” Evelyn replied with a slight smile. She handed Tessie some gifts, saying, “These are a little something from Lucas and me.”

Tessie accepted them happily. “It’s enough that you guys are here. Maria’s health is gradually declining, so she sent both of you to liven the party up.” She led Evelyn in by the arm as she spoke, then asked the baby’s father, Samel Comer, to bring the baby over.

Evelyn was dazed for a moment as she looked at the gorgeous baby. She couldn’t help but smile, and her gaze softened. Tessie offered the baby to her. “Do you want to learn how to carry a baby?”

Evelyn was a little nervous as she had never held a baby before. However, she nodded. She carefully held the baby in her arms, and the gentle, soft feeling made her melt. She caressed the baby’s cheek.

Lucas stumbled upon this scene when he came upstairs. Evelyn didn’t have an aggressive character, but she was a little cold. So, she hardly ever looked as gentle as she did at that moment. Lucas walked over and looked away from Evelyn. “Auntie Tessie, Samuel.”

Samuel patted his shoulder in response. Pretending to tease Lucas, Trisse said, “Look at Este’s children. When are you guys going to have one of your own? Maria would be so happy.”

“We’re the same age, Lucas. I’m 29, and I already have my second child. Shouldn’t you put on some speed?” Samuel teased.

Lucas offered a faint smile and said nothing. He wasn’t interested in that topic. Tessie and Samuel had long heard that Lucas and Evelyn weren’t getting along, even though they appeared fine on the outside. Seeing Lucas’s attitude left them feeling helpless. Why wasn’t their relationship improving?

Evelyn understood what Lucas meant; he didn’t necessarily dislike children—he probably just didn’t want to have one with her. She looked at the baby in her arms, and her mind wandered. Would she still have a chance to bathe such a cute baby in the future?

Soon after, Evelyn and Lucas joined Tessie and Samuel at the main table. After some time, Lucas checked his watch and said, “Aunt Tessie, I have something to attend to, so I’ll be leaving soon.”

Hearing that, Lelyn considered staying. It would seem rude to leave as well. Tess took out two charms and handed one to Lucas and Evelyn. “These are lucky charms. I got them for you, hoping you’ll have better luck getting pregnant. They’ll work if you’re sincere enough. Remember to keep them on you.”

Evelyn thought it was awkward. After all, they still didn’t know she and Lucas were already getting a divorce. Lucas, however, didn’t hesitate and accepted them calmly. He didn’t see it as useless; he treated them as a blessing. Evelyn remained silent. She might never be able to bear a child anymore, but Tiffany could. It was understandable for Lucas to accept the charms.

Lucas looked at Evelyn before leaving. It seemed as if he felt it was inappropriate to leave her at the party, so he said, “I’ll have Michael pick you up later.” He had always been thoughtful toward her in public. However, Evelyn calmly replied, “Ho need, I’ll leave on my own.” Lucas gazed at her for a moment but didn’t insist. He just turned around and left.

Later, Loehm sent a text to Justine, asking her to pick her up in half an hour. After Evelyn said goodbye to Tessie and the others, she took the elevator down. Justine was already waiting for her on the first floor, jumping and waving as she called out, “Over here!”

Evelyn was about to walk over when she bumped into people exiting a banquet hall. She frowned when she saw their faces. Tiffany was holding Millie, and Mason and Jason were beside them. The person standing next to Tiffany was the calm and distinguished Luta.

Evelyn’s gaze darkened. It turned out Lucas hadn’t left the building at all and had just abandoned her at Tessie’s party to be with Tiffany. Seeing Lorlyn and Millie, she couldn’t help but survey her from head to toe, calmly saying, “Are you Evelyn? It’s been a long while.”
