Chapter 112

Cora asked anxiously, "How's Miss Haynes?"

A few bodyguards stood at the ward door, stopping the three of them.

"You can't go in!"

"We need to visit Miss Haynes!"

"Miss Haynes isn't awake yet. You can't go in."

"Fine. We'll look from outside."

Inside the ward, Joanna slightly rolled her eyes and regained consciousness. She tried to sit up but fell back, struggling.

Seeing this, Bruce hurried forward to help, saying, "Joanna, what do you need? I'll do it for you."

Joanna glanced at Bruce and weakly asked, "Where am I?"

"You're in a hospital," Bruce answered.

Joanna cried, "Hospital? Why am I here?"

Bruce held her hand tightly. A hint of tenderness appeared in his eyes. He said, "Joanna, I'm sorry. Please don't do that again. Do you hear me? You almost scared me to death!"

Bruce's eyes reddened. He'd been worried all night and hadn't rested.

It took Joanna a while to recall the previous night. She thought, "I remember having a depressive episode in the bathtub. Then I blacked out."

Joanna asked, "What time is it?"

"It's after 10 a.m.," Bruce said.

Joanna was shocked. "What? It's already after 10?" She struggled to sit up. She'd had a 9 a.m. appointment to view a factory with a client. She thought, "I'll miss the appointment!"

Bruce immediately pushed her back down. "You haven't recovered yet. Rest."

Joanna struggled again, anxious. "I'm okay! Don't stop me!"

Bruce's eyes lit up. He pressed her back onto the bed. "Joanna, do you have to? You're so weak. Just rest."

Joanna coughed. "Go away. I need to get up."

"What are you going to do?" Bruce asked.

Joanna was angry and anxious but too weak to argue. She shouted, "I need to use the bathroom! Don't touch me!"

Bruce was speechless, relieved, and stopped frowning. He quickly helped her up. "Why didn't you say so? The bathroom's far. I'll carry you."

Joanna replied, "No, I don't need help." Before she finished, Bruce scooped her into his arms.

Joanna panicked, pushing him. "Let go! I can walk!"

Bruce ignored her and carried her to the bathroom. He stood by the door, watching her as if guarding her, afraid she'd do something again.

Joanna looked at him, frustrated. "Get out! How can I use the toilet like this?"

Bruce replied, "Pretend I'm invisible. I've already seen everything!"

"Weirdo, get out!" Joanna was furious but too weak to fight. She glared at him.

Bruce compromised. "Okay, but promise you won't do anything stupid."

Joanna said, "You're crazy. What can I do?"

Bruce couldn't help himself. "Hmph, what if you drown in the toilet?" He thought, After all, she did drown herself in a bathtub!

Joanna was speechless, furious. Her glare felt like an ice blade.

Bruce gave in. "Alright, alright. Don't look at me like that. I'm leaving." He left. The moment he did, Joanna locked the door.

She thought, If he barges in while I'm using the toilet, I'll throw up.

Bruce anxiously knocked. "Hey, why did you lock the door? Are you going to do it again? Open up!"

Joanna replied, "Bruce, let me use the toilet in peace! You're so annoying!"

She thought, I didn't realize he's so clingy. Where's the cold, calm Bruce?

Half a minute later.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

Bruce knocked again. "Are you still in there?"

Joanna frowned. I can't pass through walls. Is he worried I'll disappear down the sewer?

Bruce shouted, "Answer me! I'll break in!"

Joanna replied, "I'm here!"

"Oh, alright!" Bruce was relieved.

Another half minute later.

"Are you still in there?" He was afraid she'd faint again, so he checked every half minute. [The promotional text for FindNovel.net has been removed here.]

Joanna couldn't use the toilet in peace. She shouted angrily, "Stop it! Leave me alone!"

Bruce was stunned. No one had ever dared to shout at him like that. He resentfully touched his nose and shouted back, "Damn it, Joanna! When did your temper get so bad? I'll teach you a lesson someday!"

Five minutes later.

Joanna couldn't take it anymore and hurried out.

Bruce said resentfully, "Why so long? You must have had remarkable bowel movements!" Without asking, he bent down and carried her again.

Joanna was so angry she shouted, "Don't touch me! Put me down!" She wasn't used to this Bruce.

Bruce warned, "Behave, or I'll put you in the toilet!"

Joanna, losing it, bit his shoulder.

Bruce said, "Ahh. Are you a werewolf? You have sharp teeth."

Cora and the others heard the commotion and gathered at the door. They saw Bruce carrying Joanna, smiling dotingly. Cora said, "Aww, Miss Haynes and Mr. Everett look like a loving couple!"

"Stop it, Cora. Don't ruin their moment." The marketing managers were shy and turned away.

Cora, nervous, asked through the door, "Miss Haynes, are you alright?"

Joanna reluctantly let go of Bruce's shoulder.

"I'm okay. Call Mr. Zaborski and tell him we'll reschedule."

Bruce lost his smile. "Joanna, you're weak. Drop the work! I don't want you building a factory in Mossbourne!"

Joanna rolled her eyes. "Bruce, stop bothering me! Will you only stop when I die?"

Bruce was stunned. He saw how weak she was, and his heart ached. He thought, She almost died last night. Maybe I should keep my distance.

He placed her on the bed. Sadness appeared in his eyes. "Joanna, I just want to ask one last time. Are you sure you don't love me anymore?"

Joanna was exasperated. "Bruce, I've answered you several times! I don't love you! I've never loved you! Don't ask that boring question again!"

Bruce retorted, "That's impossible. You said you loved me last night."

Joanna was stunned. "When?"

"When we… did that last night," Bruce said.

"Ugh!" Joanna cried.

She was so angry her heart ached. She rubbed her chest and lay back, unwilling to continue. She thought, He kept asking if I loved him. He was like a wolf. I had to compromise to make it more comfortable.

Bruce asked again, "Answer me!"

Joanna coughed and frowned. "I feel dizzy."

Bruce was nervous. "What's wrong? I'll call a doctor!" He hit the call button.

Minutes later, a doctor and nurses rushed in. The doctor checked Joanna. "How does she feel?"

Bruce replied anxiously, "Doctor, she said she felt dizzy!"

"Hypoglycemia. She needs glucose," the doctor said, prescribing and the nurse giving her a dose. "She needs emotional stability, so please keep quiet."

Bruce sighed in relief. "Got it."

After the doctor left, Kody knocked.

"What?" Bruce asked.

Kody reported, "Mr. Everett, Butler Henry has called."
