Chapter 189

"Hello, hello" Joanna called, but received a busy signal. Bruce had hung up.

"Bruce, you damn bastard!" she gritted her teeth. There was nothing she could do. She was powerless against him. "Jay, I'm so sorry!"

Frustrated and angry, Joanna ran her fingers through her hair. She knew her actions had provoked Bruce's harsh revenge on Jaydon, but she hadn't anticipated his ruthlessness.

Her phone vibrated. It was Michael Lawrence, the factory manager in Mossbourne. She answered, calming herself.

"Miss Haynes, something terrible happened at the factory!"

Joanna's heart leaped. "What?"

"An employee fell asleep on the production line and was pulled into a machine. He's been rushed to the hospital they couldn't save him."

The news hit Joanna like a lightning bolt. She felt numb. The Mossbourne factory had only been open three months. This was devastating.

"Have you contacted the victim's family?"

"Yes. He was a recent university graduate. His family is causing a scene at the factory, which has shut down."

"Okay," Joanna sighed. "Communicate with the family, try to calm them. I'll be there immediately."

"Alright."

Joanna hung up. With Jaydon abroad, she had to handle this herself. A poorly managed situation would severely damage the factory's reputation.

Cora looked at Joanna gravely. "Miss Haynes, what should we do?"

"Pack your bags. We're going to Mossbourne. Tell Mr. Brycen to join us."

"Alright!"

Joanna quickly prepared for the trip. Twenty minutes later, they left the company. Immediately, reporters swarmed them.

"Ms. Haynes, what about Mr. Grimm's affair?" "How do you feel about your fiancé's infidelity? Will you break up?"

Joanna's face was cold. "I'm sorry, Mr. Grimm and I are just friends."

The reporters pressed further. "Did this cause your breakup? Between Mr. Grimm and Mr. Everett, who do you love more? Will you reconcile with Mr. Everett?"

Joanna rolled her eyes. "Get out of the way!"

The reporters, relentless, surrounded her, microphones and cameras pushing into her. Despite not being in entertainment, Joanna's popularity rivaled that of a top celebrity. She hated this attention.

Cora stepped in front of Joanna, and security formed a barrier, but the reporters surged forward, cameras and microphones striking Joanna's head.

"Ah" Joanna instinctively covered her forehead. Blood welled between her fingers.

The reporters, momentarily deterred, still pressed for comments.

"Has Mr. Grimm contacted you? Will you end your business partnership with him?"

Overwhelmed, Joanna felt faint. Double vision blurred her sight. She lost consciousness.

"Miss Haynes! Miss Haynes, what's wrong?" Cora cried, but Joanna collapsed. The reporters snapped photos.

"Move aside! We're taking her to the hospital!" Cora pleaded, but the chaotic scene continued.

Suddenly, luxury cars arrived. Bodyguards cleared a path, pushing back the reporters. Bruce Everett, sunglasses shielding his face, strode toward Joanna. A gasp went through the crowd.

He lifted Joanna effortlessly and carried her to a car. The reporters' flashbulbs intensified. The bodyguards held off the press while Bruce drove away.

In the car, Bruce held Joanna, a mix of anger and pity evident. He'd rushed to the Haynes Group after hanging up on her, only to find her besieged by reporters.

"Joanna, what am I supposed to do with you?" he murmured. She was unconscious, overwhelmed by the day's events.

Minutes later, at the hospital, doctors rushed Joanna into emergency.

"She's seriously injured! How could she leave the hospital?" a doctor complained. Joanna had been in a car accident yesterday, and although her vital organs weren't harmed, she was supposed to be under observation. Her sudden reappearance was unsettling.
