Chapter 192
Roxanne sobbed as she spoke. "I never expected to become a love rival to my own sister!"
"If I could, I'd give Bruce to her! But God made me pregnant with his child! I don't know what to do, Grandma. What should I do?"
Margaret quickly comforted her. "Don't cry. This is all Bruce's fault! I warned him long ago not to be indecisive between you two! Don't worry, I'll teach him a lesson."
Roxanne, still crying and looking aggrieved, said, "Six years ago, my sister stole Bruce from me! And now, six years later, she still hasn't forgotten him! She's my sister, and I don't know how to handle this."
Margaret turned to the butler. "Butler, call Bruce and tell him to come home immediately!"
"Yes, ma'am."
The butler quickly dialed Bruce's number.
Beep Beep Beep
He called Bruce several times. When Bruce saw it was the butler, he knew his grandmother wanted him home, so he simply turned off his phone.
"Has he answered?" Margaret asked.
"No, ma'am."
Margaret sighed. "That brat is getting more and more outrageous! I'm afraid he won't be back tonight. Roxy, go to bed early."
"Yes, Grandma. You should sleep early too!"
Roxanne returned to her room and, gritting her teeth angrily, muttered, "Joanna, you damn bitch! How did you manage to keep Bruce?" She repeated, "Bitch! Bitch!"
Ring! Ring! Ring!
Ingrid called. Roxanne answered angrily. "Hello, Mom!"
"Roxy, what are you doing?"
"What else can I do?"
Ingrid said with annoyance, "Have you seen today's news?"
Roxanne said angrily, "How could I miss such big news?"
"I was worried something would happen to you, so I called. Don't take it to heart. The most important thing now is to give birth to the child. As long as you do that, you'll have nothing to worry about for the rest of your life!"
Roxanne took a deep breath. "Mom, I want to go home for a few days."
"Silly daughter! You must stay here! The longer you stay, the better your relationship with Margaret will become. If you leave the Everett mansion now, it won't be easy to return. Be good and listen to your mother. Don't think about anything else; the baby's birth is the most important thing!"
"But that slut Joanna—"
Ingrid snorted. "That slut Joanna won't be smug for long. Don't worry about it. Leave it to me!"
"Okay."
"Goodbye. Go to bed early!"
"Okay, goodnight!"
"Okay!"
They hung up. Roxanne lay on her wide bed, staring at the ceiling in a daze. The place was magnificent, but lacked warmth. Without a lover's companionship and love, even a beautiful home couldn't bring happiness. She found herself thinking of Gavin again. Six months had passed since their separation. Perhaps out of guilt, Gavin hadn't contacted her; he'd disappeared from her world. She'd forgotten the lesson she'd learned. Thinking of Gavin, Roxanne bit her lip; her body felt inexplicably hot. She admitted she missed Gavin physically, especially since Bruce never touched her. As a woman used to intimacy, the lack of it had become unbearable.
Meanwhile, the atmosphere was tense at the Haynes' house. Ingrid complained to Shaun, "Look what your good daughter has done! Why is there such trouble every other day? Are all the men dead? Why does she have to pursue her sister's man?"
"Stop her!" Ingrid's anger grew.
Shaun frowned. "What can I do? She's powerful. Even if I wanted to control her, I couldn't. Let her do what she wants."
"Hmph, Roxy's pregnant. Can you bear to see her like this? After she gives birth, if Bruce still refuses to marry her, do you want her to be a single mother?"
Shaun said helplessly, "Then what can I do? I can't run over and kill Joanna, can I?"
"Joanna is a headache. She doesn't listen to me! Mr. Everett is the same. He's divorced from her, but he still pesters her!" Ingrid rolled her eyes. "You're a useless coward! If I'd known, I wouldn't have married you!"
"In the end, you're biased!" Shaun retorted. "How am I biased? I've cut ties with her. Am I still biased?"
"Forget it. Go to sleep!"
Shaun turned away, frowning. Both were his daughters, but Roxanne had been raised by him, so he naturally favored her. Especially since Joanna had already been hurt, he didn't want Roxanne to suffer the same fate. He had to talk to Joanna, regardless of whether it would be effective. He had to stop her from pursuing Bruce.
It was Joanna's second day in the ward. Bruce arrived early with a large breakfast.
"Eat," he said.
Joanna was shocked. "Why so much?"
"I didn't know what you wanted. I just had more brought."
"You're wasting food!"
"I just want you to eat properly."
"I can't eat this much."
Bruce was irritated. He felt he'd done something wrong. Not only did she not appreciate his kindness, but she scolded him.
"Fine. Eat it or not? If not, I'll throw it away."
"Won't that be more wasteful?"
"Sigh! I don't know what to do with you. With my old temper…" Bruce sounded fierce.
"What?"
"I'll…" Bruce suppressed his anger. He'd matured. In the past, he would have flown into a rage. Now, he could control himself.
They were still angry with each other. The ward door opened. Tracy and Lilia entered.
"Daddy!"
Joanna was stunned. "Lilia, why are you here?"
"Daddy sent a driver."
"Mommy, are you sick? Why is your head injured?"
"Mommy's fine."
"Does it hurt?" Lilia asked, worried.
"It's alright. I don't feel pain anymore after seeing you, Lilia!"
"Be good, Lilia. Daddy will carry you!"
"Daddy, I miss you!"
"I miss you too, Baby Lilia. A kiss?"
Lilia kissed him twice. Bruce's heart warmed.
"What have you been doing at home?"
"Watching cartoons."
"Anything else?"
"Missing Daddy and my brothers."
Bruce felt sorry for Lilia. All three were his children, but they were separated. His grandmother was pressuring him, and his children were separated.
"Daddy, when will my brothers be back? I miss them!"
"Soon."
Lilia's eyes widened. "Really? Today?"
"Maybe not today. A few days? I'll bring you to see them, okay?" Bruce's heart skipped a beat. He couldn't bring Davian and Irvin out; his grandmother would stop him. If he let them meet, he'd have to bring Lilia back to the Everett mansion, which Joanna wouldn't agree to.
