Chapter 202
"Joanna, stop! Explain yourself."
"I told you, it's none of your business," Joanna retorted, running a few more steps. She didn't want to see him, even for a second. She could only escape to her room, like an ostrich, and recuperate alone.
Bruce chased after her and pressed her against the wall. "Joanna, what would make you listen to me?" He stared into her eyes, watery with confusion and exhaustion. Her delicate face was pale and sickly, making his heart clench.
A few seconds later, Bruce couldn't control himself. He lowered his head and kissed her deeply, but this time, the kiss was gentle, a tender holding.
"Bruce Hmm" Joanna resisted fiercely. Bruce kissed her more deeply. This stubborn, sharp woman was unmoved by force or persuasion. He had never realized the strength of her personality. He believed that conquering her body would temporarily conquer her.
"Ugh! Bruce, let go of me Don't touch me" Joanna desperately wanted to hit him, but her injuries prevented even a light punch.
Bruce kissed her until her body went limp, powerless to struggle. He stopped, gently lifting her chin. He still couldn't bear to force himself on her.
"Do you have to make me so angry? Do you have to worry me so much to be happy?" Bruce's voice was hoarse and deep, like honey-soaked poison.
Joanna, exhausted, looked at him. Their love was entangled and tiring; she longed to be free.
"Joanna, let me ask you one question. Do you still love me?"
Chapter 202 (continued)
"No I don't love you!" Joanna looked at him blankly, her eyes filled with deep resistance. How could she dare love him again? She'd rather be single for the rest of her life. It was painful; once was enough.
Bruce sneered. "You're lying." How could she not love him? He didn't believe she'd forget him so easily.
"Believe it or not, I don't want to talk to you anymore!"
"Look me in the eye and answer me seriously!"
Joanna's heart pounded. She barely raised her head. She was always at a disadvantage when she looked at him.
"I don't love you. I've never loved you!" she said angrily, avoiding his gaze.
"You can't even look me in the eye. How dare you say you don't love me?"
Joanna looked at him coldly. "Hmph, alright. So what if I say I love you? You're my brother-in-law now, and my sister is pregnant with your child! What do you want me to do? Take you away from her again? Then you'll continue to torture me, continue to love Roxanne, and make three people suffer? You'll continue to make everyone in Greyport scold me."
Bruce's heart ached. "Joanna, can you not be so harsh?"
"Hmph, Bruce, you don't have to say all this! It's your nature to love two people at once! When you were with me, you kept thinking about Roxanne! When you were with Roxanne, you came to pester me crazily! Is it really okay for you to be like this? Do you think you're the emperor? Do you think you can choose any of the three palaces and six courtyards?"
Bruce took a deep breath. "Joanna, it's not like this! There was a misunderstanding between us from the beginning. Why can't you believe me?" He shook her shoulder, trying to make her believe him, forgetting that six years ago, he hadn't believed her denial of initiating their encounter.
Chapter 202 (continued)
Now, having switched places, he felt the discomfort and disappointment.
"Can you give me a chance to explain?"
Joanna shrugged, her voice hoarse. "Bruce, it's over between us! Let's draw a full stop."
"Impossible! Never! You belong to me. You can only belong to me for the rest of your life!"
"You were the one who wanted a divorce, and you were the one who abandoned me!"
"What do you want to do now? You want to prove yourself wrong as long as you prove that you regret it!"
"Say whatever you want to say! I love you. I don't want to lose you!" Bruce said passionately, wanting to pull her into his arms.
Joanna sneered, struggling to maintain a distance. "Don't touch me again. If you love me, please respect me!"
"Alright, alright, I won't touch you! In order to prove that I love you, I'll definitely not touch you!"
"Heh!"
Bruce took a deep breath. "Joanna, I know you love me. Let's start over! Forget the unhappy past!"
Joanna sneered. "Don't you think what you're doing is cruel to Roxanne? You've already hurt me deeply. Don't hurt Roxanne again! She has your child now. You should be responsible for her and take responsibility!"
"There's no love between us!" Bruce was exasperated.
"Is this called abandonment?"
"Ha, men! They're all the same! Even if they don't love a woman, they can still do that kind of thing with her with a clear conscience!"
"You" Bruce gritted his teeth in anger. He didn't want to be rough with her, but she always provoked him. He didn't say anything else. He bent down and picked her up.
"What are you doing? You said you wouldn't touch me! Let go!"
Bruce was enraged. He picked her up horizontally and stuffed her into the front passenger seat. Joanna panicked. "Don't touch me!"
Bruce looked alarmed. "Don't move around. If you move around here, I can't guarantee what I'll do."
Chapter 202 (continued)
Joanna didn't dare move. This damned bastard! It was better not to fight him head-on. Bruce started the car and drove away.
"Where are you taking me? Where are you going?" Joanna was afraid. He had brought her up the mountain before and ruthlessly tortured her all night. She was afraid of him; she swore never to let him touch her again.
"Don't tell me you want to bring me"
Bruce rolled his eyes. "Hmph, is that what you think of me? In your heart, I'm a bastard who only knows violence?"
Joanna stopped refuting. Bruce could be a pampering lover, a perfect man when in a good mood. But the gentler he was, the more terrifying; he'd shower one with happiness, then throw them away to suffer. This bipolar nature was the key. Therefore, she would rather never have loved him.
Twenty minutes later Reagan No. 8 Residence
Bruce brought Joanna back to their former marital home.
"Mr. Everell, you're back?" The servants greeted him.
Joanna was angry. "Why did you bring me here?"
"Nothing. I just want to be alone with you! Get out of the car!"
Joanna got out and followed him to his room, unchanged since she left: clean, elegant, and fresh. Unfortunately, she'd never been happy here, yet foolishly waited for him daily, hoping to touch him.
Bruce took out a first aid kit. "Take off your coat!"
"What are you doing?"
"Bandage the wound!"
"No need!"
"Hurry up!"
Joanna rolled her eyes and obeyed. Bruce cleaned and medicated her wound, looking focused. Joanna, watching him, welled up with tears. She'd yearned for him, but now, being with him only brought sadness.
