Chapter 205

Soon, the family doctor instructed the nurse to give Joanna a fever-reducing injection and applied a fever patch.

"Mr. Everett, I've treated the patient. Her immunity is weak; she needs several days of bed rest."

"She'll need two more injections tomorrow and the day after."

"Understood."

The doctor left after giving further instructions. The injection was administered early that morning. By ten o'clock, Joanna awoke in a daze, her mouth parched from the injection.

"Cough! Cough!"

"Joanna, you're awake!" Bruce said, bringing her a glass of water.

Joanna's mouth was dry; she drank a few sips.

"Drink slowly," Bruce said, patting her back to ease her cough.

Feeling slightly better, Joanna looked around in shock.

"What time is it?"

"Joanna! Can't you rest for a few days?"

Joanna struggled to sit up. Work awaited her! How could she rest?

"Lie down"

"Bruce, you bastard! Cough! Don't touch me!" Joanna angrily shoved his hand away, her face flushed with anger.

"You have a high fever. The doctor wants you to rest."

Joanna's anger escalated. "Go away! Don't touch me!"

"If you do this again, I'll punish you again!"

"Bruce, you're committing a crime! I can sue you"

Bruce smirked. "Alright! When you're better, sue me! Send me to jail!"

"Do you think I don't dare?" Joanna's chest heaved with anger.

"Alright, alright. Calm down."

"Here's the phone. Call the police," Bruce said, tossing her the phone.

Tears welled in Joanna's eyes. She dared not call the police. She was already a prominent figure in Greyport; further exposure would only amplify the attention she desperately wanted to avoid.

"Stop crying, you heartless woman! Do you know how much money I'm losing caring for you?"

"I don't care!"

Meanwhile, Roxanne was at the Everett mansion.

"Change into this gown; it's more appropriate for the banquet tonight."

"Okay." Roxanne picked up the gown.

"Mrs. Everett, Ms. Haynes, tonight's banquet is canceled."

Roxanne was stunned. The Everett and Mitla groups were collaborating; a banquet to entertain the Mitla president had been planned for months. Why the sudden cancellation?

Margaret was equally confused. "Where's Bruce?"

"Mrs. Everett, Mr. Everett didn't come to the company today."

Margaret was shocked. "He's meeting the Mitla president today!"

"Yes, he canceled all his schedules, including the banquet."

Margaret and Roxanne were shocked.

"Where is he?"

"I don't know."

Margaret's face darkened. Such willfulness was unacceptable in business.

"Call Bruce. Find out where he is."

The butler immediately called Bruce. He was with Joanna. Seeing the butler's call, Bruce answered.

"Hello, what's wrong?"

"Mrs. Everett wants to know where you are."

"What happened?"

"Mrs. Everett wants to know where you are."

Bruce frowned. "I'm at home."

Margaret grabbed the phone, furious. "Do you know what day it is?"

"I know."

"What's more important than meeting President Mitla?"

"All the executives are waiting! Where are you?"

Bruce sighed. "I'm not feeling well."

"So I didn't go to the company."

Margaret's anger turned to worry. "Are you unwell?"

Bruce's voice was rough.

"What's wrong with you?"

"High fever."

"Seen a doctor?"

"Yes."

"Grandma, don't worry. Just a fever and cold. I'll be fine in two days."

Bruce quickly hung up. Margaret then summoned Dr. Litman.

"Dr. Litman, how's Bruce?"

"Hmm" Dr. Litman hesitated.

"Why are you hesitating? You treated Bruce this morning. How is he now?"

Dr. Litman gave an awkward smile. "Mr. Everett is fine."

"Why did he say he was too sick to work?"

Dr. Litman hesitated. Seeing her anxiety, Margaret urged him.

"Tell me!"

"I didn't treat Mr. Everett."

Margaret was suspicious. "Then who did you treat?"

"Ms. Haynes."

Margaret and Roxanne were stunned.

"Bruce and Joanna were together last night?"

Dr. Litman hesitated. "I only treated the patient."

"Where are they?"

"Reagan No. 8 Residence."

"Grandma," Roxanne's tears fell.

Margaret was furious. "That brat! I thought something serious happened. He's having fun!"

"Grandma, don't be angry!" Roxanne pleaded.

Margaret's anger wasn't just about Bruce being with Joanna; it was about his negligence of crucial business.

"Butler, prepare the car. Reagan No. 8 Residence!"

At Reagan No. 8 Residence, Bruce was still caring for Joanna.

"Feeling better? Still dizzy? Want something to eat?"

Joanna ignored him.

"Say something! Why are you ignoring me?"

"I don't want to talk to you."

Bruce laughed. "Still angry?"

Joanna closed her eyes.

"Joanna, stop resisting. Stop denying your feelings! You love me. Your reactions tell me so."

"Bruce, don't be disgusting!" Joanna's eyes flashed with tears.

"Alright, alright. I won't say anymore."

"Mr. Everett, Mrs. Everett, and Miss Haynes are here!"

"What?"

"They're in the yard."

"Why is Grandma here?"
