Chapter 59

“Gavin, I’m really getting married. Let’s not contact each other again. Here, there’s $40,000 on this card. Treat it as compensation. Don’t bother me again.” Gavin took a puff of his cigarette and blew the smoke toward Roxanne’s face.

“I don’t want any money, Roxy. I only want you.”

As Roxanne dressed, she said peevishly, “You know, Gavin, I’m marrying into the Everett family, and you can’t give me the happiness I desire. If you truly love me, don’t stand in my way.”

Gavin leaped up and embraced her. “I’ll never stand in your way, Roxy. I won’t even stop you from marrying into the Everett family. I only hope we can continue our relationship. Even if you’re married, you can always call me…”

“No way! You’ll get me killed!”

Roxanne rejected him outright.

“But, Roxy…”

Before he could continue, Roxanne finished tidying up and scurried out of the sushi bar.

Unlike the Haynes family, the Everetts traveled with bodyguards. [Remove website promotion]

If she stayed entangled with Gavin, Bruce would undoubtedly find out.

“The happiness I’ve traded for my life mustn’t be ruined by Gavin!” she thought.

Half a month later, David arrived in Greyport with several senior members of CI Technologies. Bruce and Roxanne’s engagement banquet was scheduled for early next month.

At Everett Corporation, Andy reported to Bruce.

“What? Joanna’s throwing a banquet just to welcome the CEO of CI Technologies?”

“Yes. The CEO of CI Technologies’ Chanaea Division, David, is coming to Greyport for an on-site inspection. Miss Haynes is holding a cocktail party to welcome him and his entourage, and has also invited industry elites. It seems she’s trying to become part of Greyport’s business community.”

Bruce’s face darkened.

“When is the event? Why wasn’t I informed?”

“Miss Haynes’ message arrived yesterday. I only just received it.”

“Wasn’t I invited?”

Andy looked at Bruce in astonishment. Bruce loathed such crowded events and had never attended them; consequently, Joanna hadn’t invited him.

“Well… I don’t think so.”

Chapter 39

“No matter what, I’m still a Haynes Group shareholder. They can’t not invite me! Call Joanna and tell her I’m attending.”

“All right!”

Andy started to call when Bruce stopped him. “No, wait… Forget it.”

He knew that if he wanted to attend, no one would dare stop him, invitation or not. The public craved his presence at such events. He didn’t need an invitation.

The banquet proceeded as planned at a beachside mansion Joanna had rented. In addition to welcoming David and his entourage, she’d invited celebrities and senior Haynes Group executives. Several female artists under Jaydon’s management also attended.

Jaydon himself was supposed to attend, but his father fell ill and he had to rush home.

At the banquet, guests were dressed in tuxedos and gowns. Stunning models, dressed provocatively, attracted considerable attention, and many men attempted to flirt with them. The models attended such events for networking and the potential to meet wealthy individuals.

Soon, David and his colleagues arrived. Cora and Luna welcomed them. David, a six-foot-tall mixed-race man with striking features, was outspoken.

“Welcome!”

“Hello! Nice to meet you all.”

David, knowledgeable about Chanaea, immediately commanded everyone’s attention. Celebrities flocked to meet him.

“Wow! That’s the CEO of CI Technologies’ Chanaea Division? He’s a famous bachelor.” “Goodness gracious! I never thought he’d be so young and handsome!”

“Come on! Let’s go say hello.”

Several models and socialites approached David.

A commotion erupted at the entrance. A dozen bodyguards cleared a path for a well-dressed, imposing man. Silence fell.

“Gosh! Who’s that?” “Is that Mr. Everett?” “Oh my God! I think it’s Mr. Everett.” “Wow! Even Mr. Everett is here! Today’s my lucky day!” “Indeed! Wow… I didn’t know Mr. Everett was so good-looking in person.”

Several socialites were starstruck. Bruce had never attended such parties, so this was a rare opportunity. All eyes were on him.

Someone said, “Oh, forget it! Mr. Everett is already engaged.”
