Chapter 64

After the call ended, Roxanne cried uncontrollably. She knew Bruce would only marry her out of sympathy, not love. However, after a few seconds, she sneered. So what if there was no love? As Mrs. Everett, her social status would change dramatically. Even a divorce would leave her with a substantial sum of money. "Joanna, I won't let you steal Bruce! I will marry into the Everett family and become Mrs. Everett," she vowed.

At the Haynes Group, Bruce called Joanna all afternoon, but she didn't answer. "Damn it, she didn't answer again!" he exclaimed.

Andy entered. "Mr. Everett, Miss Haynes booked a flight to Melta for tomorrow."

Bruce frowned, a bad premonition rising. Joanna was surely going to see David in Melta, and he was up to no good. She would be in danger.

"What time tomorrow?"

"7:00 a.m."

"Book me a flight to Melta, too."

"Yes, Mr. Everett."

The next day, Joanna woke at 5:00 a.m. Her flight to Melta was an eleven-hour journey, requiring early preparation.

"Lilia, Mommy's on a three-day business trip. Be good!"

Still sleepy, Lilia obediently replied, "Yes, Mommy."

Joanna kissed Lilia, then gave instructions to Tracy. She packed her luggage and left. Cora was waiting downstairs. It was 6:10 a.m. Joanna got into the car. "Let's go!"

"Okay!" Cora replied, starting the car.

They arrived at the airport. Cora collected their tickets. They had little luggage, so they didn't need to check anything in. At 6:30 a.m., they boarded the plane. Cora booked first class for Joanna and economy for herself.

Joanna had barely slept the night before. This was a perfect opportunity to catch up. She had brought an eye mask. She found her seat, adjusted it, fastened her seatbelt, put on the mask, and prepared to sleep. She didn't know how long she slept.

A flight attendant offered drinks. Joanna removed her mask to check the time. She yawned, looked at her watch, and realized they'd only been flying for over an hour. She stretched and glanced to the side.

She saw a familiar, handsome man—Bruce. He was casually reading a magazine.

Joanna sat up straight, shocked. "Bruce, why are you here?"

He put away his magazine and removed his sunglasses, feigning surprise. "What a coincidence! Going to Melta, too?"

Joanna's mind blanked. Her eyes showed shock, anger, and disbelief.

"Why are you following me?"

He shrugged innocently. "Following you? I'm on business. Pure coincidence."

Joanna felt stifled. Bruce had a private plane; he rarely flew commercial. This airline was part of his company—he knew about her trip. The seating arrangement was no accident. Remembering the previous night, her heart ached.

Her face paled. "Bruce, what are you trying to do?"

His handsome, cold face showed a mocking smile. "Nothing much. A business trip. Fate, it seems."

Joanna didn't believe him. She was furious, but couldn't leave the plane.

She stood, grabbed her bag, and walked toward the economy class. She wanted to find a flight attendant to change her seat—the further from Bruce, the better.

Chapter 64

"Miss Haynes, what are you doing here?" Cora was surprised.

Fortunately, economy class was mostly empty. Joanna sat beside Cora.

"Nothing. I ran into a lunatic."

Cora showed surprise but didn't ask further.

Joanna angrily put her eye mask back on and leaned against the window, needing sleep before confronting David in Melta.

Twenty minutes later, Cora felt drowsy. As she dozed off, Bruce patted her shoulder. She was instantly shocked.
