Chapter 78
With a terrifying expression, Bruce stared at Joanna. "Joanna, don't talk nonsense! You must take responsibility for your words!"
Joanna pushed him away, meeting his gaze angrily. "I will take responsibility. And I'm responsibly telling you now that the person I love has always been Jay! I only married you because you're the president of a billion-dollar consortium!"
"I married you to join the Everett family and use you! I spent so much effort to secure you because you're the wealthiest man in Greyport! But I have no use for you now! I don't want to toy with you anymore! Please stop pestering me!"
Bruce clenched his fists. "I don't believe it!"
"You don't believe me? Fine. I'll tell you today that the children are Jay's! [The promotional text for FindNovel.net has been removed.] If you still don't believe me, I'll show you the children's birth certificates and their paternity test results with Jay another day!"
Bruce's blood ran cold. His eyes narrowed. "Joanna, do you know what you're talking about?"
If the children were Jaydon's, it meant Joanna had cheated on him during their marriage. This humiliation was unbearable.
Joanna held her breath, her eyes pleading with Jaydon. "Jay, tell him!"
Jaydon paused, then calmly met Bruce's gaze. "Yes, the children are mine and Joanna's. I didn't announce it publicly because of the potential repercussions. There's no need to hide the truth anymore, Mr. Everett, since you keep misunderstanding the children's parentage."
Bruce took a deep breath, frowning as he fought to control his anger. "Joanna, I'll give you one last chance."
"I'm serious! The children are Jay's! I can show you the paternity test results and birth certificates another day. I was already in love with Jay before I met you!"
Bruce scoffed. "In other words, you were still in contact with him while we were married?"
Joanna's eyes flickered before she nodded firmly. "Yes."
Her confirmation enraged Bruce. "Slap!" A sharp sound cut through the air. Bruce had slapped Joanna hard. She lost her balance, staggering back, but Jaydon caught her.
"Bruce, how can you call yourself a man?"
Malice and anger radiated from Bruce. He glared at Joanna. "Joanna, you will regret this!"
With that, Bruce slammed the door and left, his expression cold.
After he left, Joanna slumped to the ground, drained of energy. Jaydon knelt, hugging her. Joanna cried out, "Jay"
"It's alright. I'll stand by you, no matter what."
"Jay, I can't do this anymore!"
Jaydon held her tighter, comforting her gently. "Joanna, don't hold on if you can't. If things don't work out, I'll take you away from Greyport. We'll go back to Surbano!"
Joanna cried bitterly in his arms.
Meanwhile, in the parking lot, a screech of tires echoed. Bruce's Aston Martin swerved wildly. He drifted the car, speeding out of the garage. The terrified chauffeur grabbed the handles.
"Mr. Everett, why don't why don't I drive?"
Bruce ignored him, fiercely turning the wheel. The car drifted again, recklessly joining the traffic. He vented his frustration through speeding, terrifying the chauffeur.
Bruce hadn't initially believed Joanna, but her offer to show the birth certificates and paternity test results had partially convinced him. If true, she had betrayed him. He couldn't accept it.
"Joanna, I didn't expect you to dare lie to me! I'll make you regret it!" Bruce cursed, slamming the steering wheel. The car tilted dangerously.
"Mr. Everett, be careful! There's a red light ahead" The chauffeur's face was white with fear. Bruce had recently been in a serious car accident. Margaret would fire all the chauffeurs if she found out. He closed his eyes, expecting the worst.
Unexpectedly, Bruce slammed on the brakes. The car lurched to a halt, the sudden stop throwing them forward. Their seatbelts held them in place. The terrified chauffeur felt a desperate urge to flee the vehicle.
