Chapter 8
"I was vice president of CI Technologies, responsible for domestic operations. Here are the financial statements for the past three years. I believe you've heard that CI's profits in this region have increased significantly in recent years."
The others were shocked.
CI Technologies was too well-known globally to ignore.
And to be its vice president at such a young age… it took both luck and considerable ability.
"Wait a minute. You can't be the famous Ms. Haynes of CI Technologies, can you?"
Joanna smiled confidently. "Yes, I am."
Astonishment fell silent. Even Bruce was surprised.
Ms. Haynes had been a rising star in the business world for the past two years. She and her team were credited with a 55% increase in CI Technologies' domestic sales in just two years. Who wouldn't admire such talent?
Joanna held dual citizenship. No one expected that Ms. Haynes was the Joanna Everett who had been estranged from the family.
"I'm confident in my ability to manage the Haynes Group. My team will join me, and I've secured CI's sole agency in Greyport. For the next few years, the Haynes family's material supply will be secure, and we'll collaborate with CI on new projects."
Mr. Roger and Mr. Paul beamed. "This is… incredible! Many have failed to secure a sole agency agreement with CI, yet Ms. Haynes obtained it for us. We never dreamed of working with CI. It seems Mr. Raymond Haynes chose a worthy successor. We have no objections."
The Haynes Group had been losing money for years under Shaun's chairmanship. The board was deeply dissatisfied.
Unlike Shaun, Joanna had turned the company's fortunes around almost immediately. With CI Technologies as an ally, the Haynes Group's future looked secure for at least the next few years.
Therefore, Shaun's removal as chairman was inevitable.
Shaun's face turned livid. "Joanna, you can be chairwoman. I have no problem with that. However, I suggest you start at the bottom. More experience wouldn't hurt. Or, if not the bottom, perhaps a department head or manager…"
But never chairman, Shaun thought. If Joanna became chairwoman, what would happen to him and his sons?
He prioritized his sons. Furthermore, having grown up without a relationship with Joanna, he didn't want most of the company's assets to fall into her hands.
"Dad, I'm fulfilling Grandpa's wishes. If I can't increase the Haynes Group's profits by more than 20% in three years, I'll resign and leave the business permanently."
"Mr. Haynes, at least give your daughter a chance. I support her."
"I agree."
"Joanna, you…" Shaun glanced pleadingly at Bruce, silently begging for his support.
But Bruce remained silent and neutral. His investment in the Haynes Group was too small to warrant his active involvement. He didn't want to waste his time and energy.
However, he didn't object to Joanna becoming chairwoman. It would simply make the situation more interesting, providing him with an opportunity to teach her a lesson or two. "Mr. Everett, what's your opinion?"
Bruce smiled and shrugged. "I… I'm fine with it."
"Even Mr. Everett agrees. Mr. Haynes, you should vacate your position immediately and allow Ms. Haynes to assume your duties."
Shaun was stunned. How could Bruce agree? He'd expected the younger man's support, but Bruce had become his downfall.
His chairmanship was over.
Chapter 8
"Good for you, Joanna, good for you. It seems all these years I raised you for nothing. You want to replace your own father? Is there any humanity left in you? You've always been rebellious. Six years ago, you disgraced the entire family, becoming the talk of Greyport. And now you return to steal everything. You're a disgrace!"
Shaun launched into a tirade, pointing and shouting at Joanna.
He had to protect his sons' inheritance. If he had to hand over the company to his daughters, he preferred Roxanne over Joanna.
Joanna understood his motivations. It hurt, but she maintained a composed exterior. "Dad, I'm simply claiming my grandfather's inheritance. If you have complaints, speak to my lawyer. Also, I don't want you involved in the Haynes Group's management. An annual payment based on profits will be transferred to your private account." Joanna had never used her father's money and had felt no paternal love. At twelve, after her mother's death, she lived at boarding school, rarely returning home, her expenses covered by her mother's inheritance and scholarships.
