Ingrid's face darkened. Her eyes raked over Joanna, her expression filled with mockery. "So they're the ones who booked the aquarium? Is this what you meant when you said it was under repair?" Joanna raised her eyebrows slightly and looked at the staff. Irvin tugged at Joanna's hand. "Mommy, can we go in now?"
"Sir, others can enter, so why can't we?" "My sister really wants to see it!"
The staff member turned and looked inquiringly at Ingrid. Ocean Park wasn't private property; booking the entire venue was prohibited. However, it had been booked for a wedding photoshoot—only the powerful Everett family could manage that in Greyport. Roxanne, though not yet married into the family, was already treated as Mrs. Everett.
"Can we go in now?" Joanna asked.
The staff ignored her, turning to Ingrid and Roxanne. "Mrs. Haynes, Miss Roxanne, are you finished with your photoshoot?"
Ingrid sneered at Joanna. "Not yet! Just wait!"
Joanna's anger simmered. "Mr. Everett hasn't arrived yet. They still need to take photos of the couple; they've only done solo shots. Outsiders aren't allowed in the aquarium today!"
"Alright, alright. Take your time, Mrs. Haynes and Miss Roxanne!" The staff then addressed Joanna: "I'm sorry, but you can't enter right now."
Irvin's face crumpled with disappointment. "Mommy, what should we do?"
Davian stood coolly, glaring at Roxanne and Ingrid. "Mommy, why can they go in, but not us?"
Lilia timidly tugged at Joanna's finger. "Mommy, maybe we should come back another day."
Joanna's face hardened. "Alright, we'll come back another day. Davian, Irvin, let's go!"
Seeing Joanna about to leave, Roxanne raised an eyebrow and smiled smugly. "Bruce and I are getting engaged next month, Joanna. I didn't want to bother you, but since I saw you, here's an invitation. Do bring your children to our engagement party." Roxanne's assistant produced an invitation, which she handed to Joanna.
Joanna sneered, refusing the invitation. "No need. We're not free. Davian, Irvin, let's go!"
Ingrid curled her lip. "Hmph, aren't you ashamed, bringing that little cripple out?"
Joanna's suppressed anger erupted. "Who are you calling a cripple?"
Ingrid crossed her arms, looking disdainful. "Oh, did I say something wrong? A child that age still in a pram? What else would you call her? This is retribution! Even the heavens are punishing her for her many misdeeds! Oh, wait, the punishment fell on her child. Well-deserved retribution!"
Davian and Irvin's faces contorted with anger. "Our sister is just sick, not crippled!" Lilia, already sensitive and timid, began to sob. Roxanne seized the opportunity, adding cruelly, "Mom, don't be so harsh! Medicine is so advanced now; even if she's crippled, she can be cured!"
Ingrid snorted. "No matter how advanced, it can't cure congenital disabilities! Sigh, you're right! Pregnancy tests detect everything nowadays. Why have her if you knew she'd be crippled, Joanna? Roxy, remember to get tested when you and Mr. Everett have children! It would be such a burden to have a cripple!"
"Mom, you're overthinking! Bruce has good genes. He won't give me an unhealthy child!"
The mother and daughter continued to use the word "crippled." Joanna's heart ached; she clenched her fists.
Davian's eyes blazed. He lunged at Ingrid, pushing her hard. "You're the cripple! My sister is just sick!"
Ingrid, wearing high heels, stumbled, nearly falling. "Ouch! You damn child! You have no manners! Get lost!" She raised her hand to slap Davian.
Joanna instantly grabbed Ingrid's arm, pushing her away. "Don't touch my child!"
"Heh, damn bitch, you're a perfect match. You're both lowlifes! Serves you right for giving birth to a cripple…"
Joanna's eyes turned cold. She slapped Ingrid. "Watch your mouth!"
Stunned, Ingrid covered her face. Roxanne rushed to her side. "Joanna, how could you hit your mother? She's your elder!"
Ingrid recovered. "How dare you hit me! I'll fight you to the death!"
