Chapter 89

Joanna and Jaydon were furious, on the verge of a fight.

"Stop arguing! Calm down, both of you!" Joanna panicked, seeing their escalating conflict.

Beep. Bruce's phone rang. It was Henry, the butler. Henry was usually sedate and only called in emergencies. Bruce frowned and answered.

"Hello, Mr. Everett. Your grandmother is in the hospital. Please come quickly!"

"What happened to Grandma?"

"She suffered a sudden cerebral infarction. Come as fast as you can!"

"Okay, I'll be right there!" Bruce hung up, panicked. He left Joanna for the hospital.

After Bruce left, Jaydon sighed in relief. "Joanna, are you alright?"

"I'm fine."

"What exactly is Bruce trying to do?"

Joanna sighed. "My head is a mess. I want to be alone for a while."

"Alright, go back to your room and rest."

"Jay, you can go now. I need some space."

"Alright then. Call me if you need anything."

"Okay."

Jaydon left. Joanna summoned Davian and Irvin, then carefully reviewed Davian's edited video. She vaguely recognized the servant who sent her to Bruce's room; she seemed to be one of her grandfather's nurses, but this nurse had left the Haynes family.

"What exactly was going on? Why did she do this?" Joanna, puzzled, immediately checked the nurse's information, determined to discover her motive.

Chapter 89

Bruce rushed to the hospital.

"Where's Grandma?"

"She's in the emergency room."

"Mr. Everett, you can't go in now!" A nurse stopped him. Bruce paced outside.

"Grandma seemed fine earlier. Why did she suddenly fall ill?"

Henry said gravely, "After Mr. Everett left the engagement banquet, Mrs. Everett suffered a relapse on the way home." Bruce stared at the emergency room door, fear etched on his face. His grandmother must have been angry with him; she'd spoken to him countless times about his marriage.

Beep beep beep! His phone rang again. It was Roxanne. Upset, Bruce ignored the call. Then, Andy's phone rang.

"Mr. Everett, Miss Roxanne is calling me."

Bruce replied coldly, "Don't answer it."

"Yes, sir."

An hour later, the emergency room door opened. A doctor emerged.

"Doctor, how's the patient?"

"Fortunately, the infarction isn't severe. She's been stabilized, but she's unconscious. She's shown signs of a stroke and mustn't be agitated."

Bruce's heart sank. "Alright, I understand. Please do your best."

"Mr. Everett, I will."

The nurse wheeled Margaret out.

"Grandma" Bruce rushed to her side. Margaret lay on the stretcher, an oxygen mask on her face, still unconscious. His heart breaking, Bruce took her hand. She was his only relative, his support since childhood. With her, he was a child, unlike the ruthless businessman others saw.

Chapter 89

At the Haynes' house, Roxanne called Bruce repeatedly, but he didn't answer. She angrily threw her phone down. Ingrid looked anxious.

"How is it? Is Mr. Everett still not answering?"

"No!"

"Do the Everetts think we're a joke?"

"Even if Joanna didn't intentionally sabotage him six years ago, what does that have to do with your marriage?"

Roxanne's heart sank. She knew Bruce didn't love her and didn't want to marry her, using this as an excuse to escape.

Ingrid grew angrier. "No, let's go find him!"

"Mom, don't cause trouble!"

Ingrid glared. "How is this trouble? We announced the engagement! He's treating us like fools!"

"Mom" Roxanne cried.

"Roxy! Be smart this time! Don't hurt yourself like last time! This is about making trouble, not risking your life. If something happens, how will your father and I live? This needs your mother's personal touch!"

Ingrid called Henry.

"What? Mrs. Everett is in the hospital?" She gasped. "Go to the hospital now!"

Roxanne was shocked. "Mrs. Everett is in the hospital?"

"Yes! Hurry!"
