Chapter 98
Bruce furrowed his brow. The dessert in his hand slipped and fell to the ground.
"The patient may have just left," the nurse replied, surprise evident in her eyes. A moment ago, she hadn't believed Mr. Everett was at their hospital, but now it was clear. It was indeed Mr. Everett.
Bruce said nothing. With a cold expression, he turned and strode away, his back tall and straight, exuding masculinity. His physique surpassed even Western male models.
The nurses behind him were captivated. "Oh my god, it's really Mr. Everett!"
"I can't believe he came to our hospital! He's even more handsome in person. He beats all the male celebrities!"
"By the way, wasn't the patient he just sent over Miss Haynes?"
"Tsk tsk, it seems so! I heard from the attending doctor that Miss Haynes's external injuries are serious. It's as if someone roughly handled her."
"Wow, this is juicy! Could it be that Mr. Everett used violence against her?"
A married nurse pursed her lips. "The more handsome a man is, the worse he is. Rich people like him have messy private lives!"
A younger nurse's eyes lit up. "Mr. Everett is so handsome in person," she said. "He's much more handsome than on TV! I want to be 'badly treated' by him romantically. If I could be, it would be worth dying for!"
"Stop daydreaming and get back to work! He's gone."
"He even spoke to me! Unfortunately, I didn't ask for an autograph!"
"Look at how infatuated you are"
In the nearby restroom, Joanna hid, refusing to leave the hospital. She had remained there since earlier.
Hearing the nurses' excited chatter, her face paled. Bruce was Greyport's wealthiest man—young, rich, and handsome. He frequently appeared in the media, always refined and elegant in suits and leather shoes, the epitome of a restrained gentleman. Such a man naturally fueled women's fantasies.
Unfortunately, only Joanna knew how terrifying he could be when he lost control.
Joanna had just received a glucose infusion, and her dizziness had subsided considerably. After some time in the restroom, she left the hospital.
It was past midnight when she arrived home by taxi. Lilia was asleep; Tracy waited on the sofa.
Seeing Joanna, Tracy hurried to greet her and take her handbag. "Miss Haynes, you're back," she said.
"Yeah," Joanna replied. "You haven't slept yet?"
Tracy looked concerned. "Why so late?" she asked.
"I worked overtime," Joanna said.
As Tracy took the handbag, she saw Joanna's arm. “Miss Haynes, why is your arm injured?”
Joanna forced a smile. "I'm fine. I just tripped and fell. I'm tired; I'll go to bed. You should too."
"Are you hungry? Should I make you something?" Tracy asked.
"It's okay," Joanna said, heading to her room. She was exhausted and in pain. She fell asleep immediately.
At seven the next morning, Joanna woke on time.
"Lilia, Mommy's going to the office," Joanna said. "Be good!"
Lilia blinked. "Mommy, I'll be good! Come back early!"
"Alright," Joanna said, caressing her daughter's head. She kissed Lilia's face. "Mommy's leaving!"
Lilia blinked again. "Mommy, can I watch TV a little longer? I saw Irvin on TV yesterday!"
Joanna smiled. "A little longer, but not too much. It's bad for your eyes."
"Okay, Mommy!" Lilia said.
"Tracy, I'm going to work," Joanna said. "Take Lilia for a walk this afternoon."
"Okay, Miss Haynes," Tracy said, handing Joanna her handbag and seeing her off.
Tracy, Miranda, and Kelly had worked for Joanna since the birth of her children. Joanna trusted them implicitly and compensated them generously. Considering Lilia's medical expenses and Davian and Irvin's schooling, Joanna's expenses were substantial, forcing her to work hard.
Joanna took her handbag and keys and left, feeling groggy and uncomfortable. She longed to stay home and rest, but felt insecure about missing a day at work. Her sense of security stemmed from her work, and she enjoyed the busy, fulfilling feeling it provided.
She arrived at the company at eight. "Good morning, Miss Haynes!"
"Good morning!"
Entering the company energized her. She headed for the elevator. She had contracts with the Skywinds Group and the Neorace Group to fulfill.
