Chapter 1017
They drove back to Galaxy Villa. Upon arrival, they entered the house, one after the other.
"We need to talk," Joe said, looking at Skylar as they stepped inside. All day, he'd felt a rising unease, sensing something significant—and unwelcome—was about to happen.
"Okay," Skylar replied, moving closer.
Once seated, Joe fixed his gaze on her. "Tell me, did something happen today? Is it about us, or Grandma?" Skylar knew she hadn't been herself; Joe's uncanny perception surprised her.
She decided to be direct. "I think we should end our marriage. We've been married in secret, and we can quietly get a divorce without anyone knowing…"
Before she could finish, Joe's face paled. "Is this what you wanted to talk about? You've been hiding your feelings all day to tell me you want a divorce? Did you plan to deceive Grandma, too? Skylar, how could you!"
He abruptly stood, his lips pressed tight, anger radiating from him. Without giving Skylar a chance to respond, he left Galaxy Villa. Skylar watched, stunned by his fierce reaction; she hadn't anticipated such a strong response to her mention of divorce.
Later that night, Skylar awoke as if engulfed in flames, her skin ablaze with pain. Whispers echoed, cruel and haunting: "Skylar, you're just a burden. Why don't you just die?" "Christopher is just a lackey to me. Look how much he despises you now while he’s so fond of me." "How could I have a daughter like you? My daughter should be lively and talented like Maisy, not a useless wreck like you." "You don’t belong in this world. You should go back to your own. You and Joe can’t be together. You’ll harm everyone you care about. You’ll bring them harm…"
Skylar shook her head in terror, resisting fiercely. "Why should I? I refuse. I don’t believe it. No! You can’t hurt them."
A soothing voice cut through the chaos. "You had a nightmare? Don't be afraid. I'm here. No one can hurt you." The fear dissipated as Joe's arms enveloped her. Tears streamed down her face as she sobbed quietly, releasing pent-up emotions.
Joe watched, struck by her profound sadness. The intensity of her dream suggested something deeply troubling had occurred. He wondered if it stemmed from her desire for divorce. As he gently patted her hand, a wave of understanding washed over him.
