Chapter 1021
Vera glanced at the ring on her finger and sneered. โHow much longer can you keep this up, Skylar?โ
It was 10:00 PM, and Joe still hadnโt returned to Galaxy Villa. Skylar retrieved the two letters Viola had written and carefully reviewed them. A decision solidified in her mind. She called Joe, but the call went unanswered. Taking a deep breath, she texted, โAre you coming home tomorrow? I need to see you.โ The message vanished into the void, receiving no reply.
A week had passedโthere werenโt many days left. Before bed, she checked her phone again; Joe remained unresponsive. If he didnโt respond, she would find him tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Joe was at a noisy gala dinner, surrounded by a crowd engaged in repetitive conversations. After what felt like an eternity, boredom set in. Absentmindedly, he finished his drink and checked his phone. He found a missed call and a WhatsApp message from Skylar. His expression darkened as he read her text.
Seeing Joeโs disinterest, the nearby guests tactfully dispersed. Vera approached. โI heard youโve been avoiding these events lately. What brought you here today?โ
Joe looked up at her. โI happened to have some free time.โ
Vera smiled graciously, her eyes sparkling. โI also just happened to have some free time.โ In truth, she had rushed over after learning from a friend that he was attending. Sheโd contacted a stylist and hurried there. She wondered what heโd seen on his phone. He seemed cold and distant, pushing people away. Sheโd watched as those around him cautiously retreated, unwilling to disturb him. Despite his overwhelming presence, surpassing many celebrities, she found it captivating. Her heart fluttered.
With affection in her eyes, she said gently, โYour glass is empty.โ
Joe glanced at his empty glass, casually setting it down and leaning back against the wall, seemingly pensive. Just as Vera felt her heart race, Joeโs gaze fell on her ring. โWho gave you that ring?โ
Veraโs heart skipped a beat. Following his gaze, she looked at the ring on her finger.
