Chapter 103 (1/2)
Caleb wished it were as Alexander assumed: Skylar was undeniably capable. She excelled not only at restoring antiques but also at authenticating them, instantly discerning fakes or inferior pieces. Caleb considered Alexander's reliance on age and experience to judge capability a sign of his advancing years.
Skylar entered the workroom, pushing open the door. She disliked interruptions while working, preferring a quiet environment and undivided attention. She wasn't even bothered by Alexander's rejection of her application; her disappointment was mild.
Seeing Skylar immediately immerse herself in her work, Caleb, furious, texted his grandfather: "I'm getting a DNA test. I don't think you're my grandpa."
Alexander replied, "Get a DNA test with your father when you're free. I suspect you're not his son."
Caleb gripped his phone so tightly he nearly dropped it. He felt he must have committed past-life sins to have such a grandfather.
After replying to Caleb, Alexander turned to the interview candidates. He would be conducting the interviews personally. These experienced professionals authenticated various antiques. The interviews would last several hours; his team had high standards, and the incompetent wouldn't dare face him. The interview process was multi-staged.
Alexander doted on Caleb, but Caleb was unreliable. Most of Caleb's friends favored challenging activities, some exhibiting overconfidence after only a few days of college and acquiring basic skills. Caleb was easily influenced, lacked societal experience, and tended to trust others readily. Alexander believed today's youth were not comparable to his generation; lacking skills, they pretended omniscience—a troublesome trait.
Seeing Caleb cease his complaints, Alexander put down his phone and silently scrutinized the interviewees.
Chapter 103 (2/2)
These interviewees were considered top-tier, yet Alexander remained dissatisfied. He found that most young people were unwilling to endure hardship.
In the laboratory, Kenny typed a command into the computer. The robotic arm under test swayed violently before collapsing and breaking in half. He had tested it 300 times in two days without success.
"Was that information from Steven's thesis fabricated?" Kenny muttered, suspecting Steven had deliberately sabotaged him. They had been rivals in college; Kenny looked down on Steven, considering him arrogant and pretentious despite his humble rural background. Steven consistently outperformed Kenny academically, but his family lacked Kenny's resources and connections. Kenny's family provided extensive support for his career development.
Unexpectedly, Steven had been hired by the same cutting-edge technology company. Then, Kenny considered Skylar's attitude; he suspected Steven had influenced her.
Enraged at Skylar's deference to Steven over him, Kenny confronted him. Steven, engrossed in data, felt a sharp pain on his cheek as Kenny shouted, "Did you tell Skylar to find a sugar daddy to disgrace the Williams family?"
