Chapter 1048
โRowan, why didnโt we watch a different movie?โ Jenny complained. She wasnโt a fan of comedies, particularly those without her favorite actors.
When Rowan suggested a movie, she envisioned a romantic drama or lighthearted love storyโnot this. She was displeased.
Rowan frowned. โOf all the options, this seemed most interesting. The others were mostly childrenโs movies, and Iโm not into that. If you donโt like it, use your phone for a while.โ
โI didnโt mean I didnโt like it,โ Jenny quickly corrected, sensing his annoyance. It wasn't unbearable; she could manage.
Her gaze drifted to two women seated near the front. Only four people were in the theater, a testament to the film's unpopularity.
Rowan had been in a strange mood lately, so she decided not to push him. Absentmindedly, she munched on her tasteless popcorn. Even the snacks were disappointing. Romantic movies were far superior for couples. They offered hand-holding, cuddling, and sweet kissesโopportunities for connection that felt increasingly absent from their relationship. They hardly kissed anymore. It barely felt like they were a couple.
She found herself distracted, barely following the film. The two women ahead laughed heartily at a scene. Rowan, who had been watching the movie, suddenly stared at one of them.
Jenny noticed, and jealousy flared. โRowan, your girlfriend is right here! Why are you staring? Do you think Iโm not pretty enough? If you donโt like me, just say it!โ
Rowanโs eyes returned to her, his brow furrowed. He hadnโt been ogling them; he was simply reminded of Minerva. He'd never been to the movies with Minerva, and wondered if she would enjoy it.
โWhat are you talking about?โ he said, irritation edging into his voice. โI wasnโt staring because I donโt like you. They just looked familiar.โ
โFamiliar?โ Jenny scoffed, a bitter smile twisting her lips. โDo you think Iโll believe you? Youโve always had a thing for other women, havenโt you? You probably wish you were flirting with them instead of sitting here with me.โ
Her thoughts were sharper than her words. She didnโt believe his โsex after marriageโ story. In her eyes, he was keeping his options open, fearing commitment would curtail his interactions with other womenโespecially Minerva. Did he really think she hadnโt noticed?
Rowan clenched his jaw, frustration mounting. He used to humor Jennyโs behavior, but his patience had worn thin.
โStop overthinking it and watch the movie,โ he said firmly.
Jennyโs hands clenched, her eyes welling. โThis movie is boring! Whatโs so great about it?โ
She felt his disinterest, a sharp sting. Shouldn't he reassure her, explain his gaze, make her feel secure?
Rowan exhaled deeply. He found the movie funny, but Jennyโs constant complaints ruined it. He envied the laughing women. If only she'd stop, they could enjoy it together.
โI donโt get what those two women are laughing at. This movieโs a scam for old folks,โ Jenny muttered bitterly.
That was the breaking point. Rowan turned to her, his voice low and strained. โCan you please stop talking?โ Jenny glared. โFine! I wonโt say another word!โ
If he didn't want to hear her, she'd oblige. She could remain silent forever if he preferred. Let him apologize later. She wouldn't forgive him this time.
