Chapter 1050
In the parking lot outside the theater, Skylar and Minerva each entered their cars.
Minerva had initially planned to invite Skylar for a late-night snack. Several excellent restaurants in Jipsburg offered delicious food at that hour, their busiest time. Minerva, who had previously been hesitant to indulge, felt a sudden temptation. She sometimes visited these places, but only to watch others eat, never truly partaking.
However, her encounter with Rowan and Jenny soured her mood.
โLetโs make plans another time,โ Minerva told Skylar.
Skylar smiled. โSure, another day. Get some rest tonight.โ
Skylar started her car and drove away. Minerva was about to follow when her phone rang again. It was Rowan. Her expression darkened; she rejected the call and sped off, wanting no contact.
Shortly afterward, another car pulled in front of her, forcing her to brake hard. Under the streetlights, she angrily honked her horn.
โWhat kind of idiot is this?โ she muttered, frustration evident in her voice.
When the โidiotโ exited the car and approached, her expression grew colder. โWhat an idiot,โ she repeated, louder this time.
Rowan walked toward her car, gesturing for her to exit. Minerva remained unmoved. His presence irritated her intensely, reminding her of the child she had lost. This only deepened her resentment.
As Rowan approached, he noticed her icy demeanor. His heart tightened; discomfort washed over him. He knocked on her window.
Minerva sighed, realizing he wouldn't leave without an interaction. She lowered the window, her face remaining impassive.
โYou better have a good reason for stopping me,โ she said, her voice cold and distant.
Rowan felt a pang of pain at her indifference. Her refusal to engage, her desire for distance, struck him harder than expected. His throat tightened.
โI saw you at the hospital last time. Whatโs going on? Are you sick? Is it serious?โ he asked, trying to conceal his unease. The image of Minerva looking pale had been haunting him. He couldn't shake his worry.
Minerva was meticulous about her health; she ate well, maintained her weight, and had a private physician. Why was she hospitalized? A minor ailment wouldn't necessitate hospitalization.
Chapter 1050
Minerva let out a short, humorless laugh. โAre you trying to show me you care now? Did you forget who youโre with, or are you confusing me with Jenny?โ
The absurdity of the situation amused her. Rowan, always self-serving, pursued whatever he desired, regardless of consequences. He had ended their engagement for a long-term love. Yet, he now inquired about her health. Did he not fear Jenny's jealousy? Or did he believe Minerva needed his concern?
