Chapter 111

Caleb was a hopeless romantic. However, when the three interviewers presented Alexander with the answers, he pointed at one paper and asked, "Whose is this?"

"It belongs to Skylar," Mr. Gardner Senior said. "The girl among the three. Her speed in identifying the fakes was astonishing. At first, we thought she might be cheating."

"But we always change the items used in the interview to prevent anyone from knowing the answers in advance," one of them explained, his voice filled with disbelief.

Alexander and Caleb were stunned. Caleb knew Skylar was skilled, but he hadn't expected this level of amazingness! He blinked in surprise before bursting out laughing.

Alexander's face darkened at Caleb's arrogant laughter, but a hint of excitement flickered in his eyes. "This young woman has a keen eye," Alexander said. "She must have studied authentic pieces extensively. Have them proceed to restoration."

"I've already assigned them to restore an antique pocket watch," the man replied.

Alexander nodded. "Have them work on a painting as well. We have several fragments. They don't have to restore the entire painting, just a section, following our guidelines. Let's see what they can do." Most importantly, he wanted to test Skylar's abilities.

Since his youth, he had admired Viola, his teacher, who had taught him much of what he knew. Sadly, Viola had never taken apprentices and had disappeared years ago; he had no idea where she was now. Was it just him, or did he see a hint of Viola's spirit in Skylar's determination and decisiveness?

Confident in Skylar's success, Caleb couldn't take his eyes off her on the monitor. The more he watched, the more fascinated he became. He really liked her. It had been love at first sight when he'd seen her restoring antiques, but now he wondered if his love of extreme sports and motorbikes made him unworthy.

A new seed of change sprouted in his heart. He decided to turn over a new leaf for Skylar! Meanwhile, the monitors clearly showed Skylar's professionalism and focus. She was also fast.

They weren't given much to restore, so they were unlikely to work all day, but they would still need a few hours. In the past, Caleb wouldn't have had the patience to watch antique restoration. He'd much rather watch skydiving. However, now he didn't want to leave the monitor for a second. At Daniel's shop, he couldn't keep staring at Skylar without incurring Daniel's wrath.

Alexander became increasingly absorbed, even asking the security team to zoom in so he could see every detail of Skylar's process. Both Alexander and Caleb were captivated, as was the security guard in the monitor room. He didn't understand why anyone would be so engrossed in restoring antiques, but Skylar did have a beautiful pair of fair, slender hands.

Unaware of the scrutiny, Skylar finished her work, stood to wash her hands, and was again the first to complete the task. Having learned from earlier, the other two candidates weren't nervous; they assumed Skylar was showing off and had likely botched the restoration.

Instead of sitting down, Skylar walked to the window and quietly gazed at the scenery. She checked her watch: 12:30 pm.
