Chapter 1118
The next day, Skylar and Paul prepared to return to Jipsburg City. Lizzie would follow in a few days and had arranged dinner with Skylar upon her return. Herman, already free of his troubles and refreshed after a night's rest, accompanied Lizzie to the airport to see them off. Carl and Winona even packed a large bag of local specialties for Skylar.
Upon landing, Skylar was surprised to see Joe waiting. Instinctively, she glanced around, feeling cautious. Noticing her reaction, Joe chuckled, "They wouldn't dare send anyone to follow me now."
"That's a relief," Skylar sighed, though Kevin's whereabouts remained unknown, preventing her from fully relaxing.
As they drove, Skylar took a bottle of water, sipping before speaking. "The negative items in Herman's possession and those appearing recently in Jipsburg aren't from the same source."
Joe's expression turned serious. "That person's reach isn't that extensive. Their target is a few Jipsburg families." Skylar nodded. Looking at Joe, she remembered Viola's dream words and her letter, a heavy feeling settling in her chest.
"Missing me?" Joe teased, noticing her pensive gaze. Skylar quickly glanced at Paul, appreciating Joe's boldness. She then looked out the window. "It was sunny yesterday. Why is it so overcast today?"
The gloomy weather mirrored her mood. Dark clouds threatened rain. Joe glanced out the window. "The forecast predicts rain in an hour."
"Are you still going to the office?" Skylar asked, checking the time.
"No," Joe replied.

He sensed Skylar's subdued mood. From the passenger seat, Paul felt his presence intrusive. Glancing ahead, he said, "Mr. Martin, I can get out here. There's a mall nearby, and I need skincare products for my mom."
He had a two-day holiday. Even though the mall was near the office, missing two days wouldn't be a problem, especially since his boss wasn't going to work. Joe grunted in agreement.
Lucas pulled over, allowing Paul to disembark. Twenty minutes later, Joe and Skylar arrived home. Skylar, having eaten lunch on the plane, wasn't hungry. After showering, she found Joe in a video conference. Avoiding interruption, she made two cups of coffee. By the time it was ready, he'd finished his meeting.
Neither added sugar to their coffeeโa habit born of living together. Before finishing their coffee, Joe pulled Skylar against the table and kissed her deeply. They moved from the living room to the bedroom.
Joe usually took the lead, but their intimacy was effortless, their chemistry undeniable. They lost track of time. Much later, as Skylar drifted to sleep, the aroma of food filled the air. The difference in physical stamina was apparent; she felt exhausted, while Joe seemed energized.
