Chapter 1120
Joe reassured Skylar. “Don’t worry. She won’t be able to stir up any trouble in Jipsburg.”
Skylar knew that, given Annie’s current situation, she wouldn’t create significant problems. However, she worried that Steven might be fooled again. A nagging sense of foreboding lingered.
In a hotel room, Annie watched Steven sleep soundly. He possessed a cold demeanor and striking features. Despite humble beginnings, he’d made a name for himself in Jipsburg through hard work and determination. His background never bred inferiority; he was humble, strong, and incredibly capable. He valued promises and was deeply committed to those around him. He had loved her wholeheartedly. While he couldn't offer the social status Joe could, he offered genuine affection—affection she had destroyed.
Since their breakup, Annie had grown increasingly aware of her mistakes, often reminiscing about their time together. Their love had been pure and beautiful. Now, all she could do was watch him from afar. He was ruthless; even after a long separation, he treated her heartlessly.
“Steven, only now do I realize that I love you,” she whispered, gazing at him.
She noticed his phone flashing; the name “Skylar” was clearly displayed. Skylar had been calling repeatedly.
“You two seem to have a close sibling relationship,” Annie said with a bittersweet smile.
Steven cared deeply for Skylar. He had coldly ended their relationship when he learned of Annie's intentions to manipulate both him and Skylar. However…
“This time is different,” Annie said, gazing earnestly at him.
While away from Jipsburg, she’d assumed Skylar and Joe had separated, especially since Joe was engaged to Lizzie. Meanwhile, Steven shone even brighter. She’d heard that many influential Jipsburg men wanted to marry their daughters to him. Even her parents regretted their disapproval and urged reconciliation. Although she’d reached out, and used mutual friends, Steven remained uninterested.
An image of their chance encounter at a bar flashed through her mind. He'd seemed to be waiting for someone. If only she hadn’t been drinking…
Annie brushed away her melancholy, forcing a smile. “Steven, I regret it. I know that after we broke up, you never regretted your decision. But… I love you. This time, I’ll approach you. I’ll come to you no matter what.”
Just as she leaned in to kiss him, his phone, which had gone dark, lit up again. This time, it wasn’t Skylar. It read, “Stupid Girl.”
“Stupid Girl…”
Annie’s expression shifted. She hesitated before answering. Immediately, she heard a woman’s soft, delicate voice—a voice that could melt anyone’s heart.
“Steven, are you stuck in traffic? I’ve been waiting for you for half an hour. If you don’t hurry, I’ll leave. I took the day off from work to spend time with you.”
