Chapter 113

“That young lady is quite outstanding!” Alexander exclaimed.

Caleb, sweating from his run, rolled his eyes, a hint of pride in his expression. “Of course she is! I told you she had the skills, but you didn’t believe me. If I hadn’t insisted, your team would have missed out on a real talent.”

“You did well this time,” Alexander said jovially. “Tell me, what do you want? Whatever it is, I’ll grant it.”

He pulled a card from his pocket. “Take this. You can’t be stingy when wooing someone. That young lady passed my test. She’s good enough to be my granddaughter-in-law.”

Caleb blushed. “Grandpa, nothing’s set in stone yet.”

“What’s not set in stone? Do your best. If you can’t win her over, then don’t call yourself my grandson. It would be an embarrassment!” Alexander huffed, shooting an exasperated glance at Caleb, leaving him speechless.

Skylar left and immediately called the auction house to cancel her interview. She then shared the good news with Janine and Steven, who invited her to a family dinner to celebrate. Skylar then told Caleb.

“I knew you could do it. I believed in you from the start,” Caleb said, feeling uneasy because he already knew the results. He didn’t know how to tell her he was Alexander’s grandson.

“When do you have time? I’ll treat you to a meal,” Skylar smiled.

“I’m free today. I’m right around the corner,” Caleb replied eagerly. He always welcomed time with Skylar.

Surprised by his enthusiasm, Skylar glanced at her watch. It was one in the afternoon. “Had lunch yet?”

Caleb, holding a burger wrapper, quickly tossed it aside. “Nope. Starving.”

“Then let’s have lunch together. What do you feel like?” Skylar asked.

“I’m fine with anything. You decide and send me the location. I’ll be right over,” Caleb replied.

“Okay,” Skylar said.

Meanwhile, Caleb was still watching Skylar in the break room. He quickly ran downstairs, got on his motorbike, and even circled the block before heading to Skylar.

Skylar waited by the road, watching as Caleb crossed the street on his bike. His youthful energy reminded her of her younger brother, Harvey.

Caleb, distracted by Skylar’s smile, didn't see a child until it was almost too late. He fell, bike and all, to avoid hitting the child.

Skylar’s smile vanished. “Caleb!”

This crash was worse than any Caleb had experienced before. As the child cried, Caleb smiled bitterly at Skylar, who was running toward him. “Looks like lunch is off,” he said.

“Stop talking. I’m taking you to the hospital!” Skylar said, panicked. The accident triggered memories of her past, when she’d saved Sadie but been involved in a horrific accident herself.

Seeing Skylar’s pale face, Caleb gave her a wide smile. “I’m fine. Really, I’m fine!”

The crash had caused a traffic jam. A car window rolled down, and a man leaned out.

“Is that Ms. Sullivan?” Paul asked in surprise, recognizing Skylar.
