Chapter 1147

Morton and Eleanor sighed simultaneously, wondering if their son truly understood the consequences of his actions. Jeremy had divorced Natalie for a secretary, and now, another entanglementโ€”this time with a celebrity? They responded politely to Skylar but completely ignored Helena.

Feeling the cold reception, Helena clenched her fists, a wave of discomfort washing over her. She saw their judgment clearly. She had never expected to marry Jeremy; they hadn't spoken since that night. To compensate, he'd offered her significant rolesโ€”a film and a television show, both directed by prominent figuresโ€”opportunities that could propel her to the top of the entertainment industry. Yet, she felt no genuine happiness. Their meeting today was purely coincidental. She knew Jeremy's heart belonged to Natalie, and that he likely regretted that night. She, too, felt a pang of guilt.

Seeing their disdain, she could only manage a bitter smile. She hoped only that Jeremy would be alright.

"He'll be fine, don't worry," Natalie said, noticing their anxiety, her own worry evident.

The couple nodded.

After about half an hour, the operating room lights dimmed. A doctor emerged and explained Jeremy's condition to his parents: fractures and a concussion, but no serious complications.

Natalie breathed a sigh of relief. Turning to Skylar, she said, "Skye, you should go home. I'll stay a while longer." She felt she couldn't leave yet. Then, she looked at Helena.

Helena nodded. "I'm glad Mr. Hughes is alright. I have an early shoot tomorrow, so I must prepare." She left.

Natalie felt a woman's intuition; she sensed Helena's feelings for Jeremy. Helena's earlier anxiety had been unmistakableโ€”she was clearly smitten.

After Skylar and Helena departed, Natalie told Morton and Eleanor, "Helena is a good person."

"Natalie, we only acknowledge you as our daughter-in-law," Eleanor replied sharply. "No one else matters."

Morton remained silent. Natalie's stance was clearโ€”she wouldn't forgive Jeremy easily.

Skylar and Helena walked out of the hospital. As they reached their cars, Helena said, "Ms. Sullivan, please tell Ms. Jakeman I'm sorry. There's nothing between Mr. Hughes and me, and I hope she doesn't misunderstand."

That night, had Jeremy not mistaken her for someone else, their involvement wouldn't have happened. She knew he'd mistaken her identity, yet she hadn't stopped things.

Skylar looked at Helena. "These are things you should tell Natalie yourself. I can't do that for you. As for your relationship with Mr. Hughes, I think we all know deep down." The more someone denied a connection, the more it seemed they were hiding something. Today's Helena differed from their previous meeting abroad; something weighed heavily on her mind.

Helena's expression flickered. Afraid Skylar saw through her, she forced a smile. "Maybe I'll find the opportunity in the future."
