Chapter 1161

As Annie left, Skylar lifted her head, glancing in her direction before turning back to Steven. He met her gaze, and they exchanged a knowing look, understanding each other's thoughts. Skylar realized from his expression that he had moved on from his feelings for Annie. That was good. There was no room for a third party in Steven and Mona's relationship. Even though she had only just met Mona that day, Skylar sensed she was a sweet girl with a strong personality; she certainly wouldn't tolerate a boyfriend harboring feelings for an ex-girlfriend.

They all enjoyed the meal. Because Skylar had driven, she abstained from alcohol, while Steven and Mona shared a few drinks and took a cab home. Feeling full, Skylar decided to stroll through the night market, suddenly remembering Muriel's planned presence there. During their interview, Muriel had mentioned needing money and setting up a stall that evening, selling her own designs; she had plenty of stock, but once it sold out, she wouldn't return. Skylar had an idea: she could open a few more livestream accounts and offer Muriel a time slot to showcase her products. As a designer explaining her work, this should attract significant traffic. Skylar could also share a percentage of the profits, though she hadn't discussed this with Muriel yet.

The night market was bustling. It was a cool evening, and the market stretched far; Skylar wasn't sure where Muriel's stall was, so she'd have to find it by chance. Memories of her college years, strolling through the night market near campus with Natalie, filled her mind โ€“ the various snacks, the carefree atmosphere. Then, she spotted Muriel ahead, surrounded by a crowd of girls.

Just as Skylar approached, she noticed Lizzie nearby. Lizzie, sporting her usual short hair and wearing only a simple hat, looked quite casual, intently focused on Muriel. Skylar decided not to interrupt and quietly turned to leave. However, just as she took a few steps, someone grabbed her arm.

"I saw you," Lizzie said softly. Skylar paused and turned. "I saw you too," she replied.

Lizzie seemed surprised, then forced a smile. "Want to join me for some barbecue?"

Skylar was already full, but Lizzie's wistful expression made it hard to refuse. She nodded. "Let's go."

They chose a barbecue place at random. Lizzie ordered food and asked Skylar what she wanted; she ordered five lamb skewers. Perhaps it was the evening, but emotions felt heightened. Lizzie, suddenly compelled to confide, revealed, "Muriel is my girlfriend."

Skylar had suspected as much.

"Back in college, few knew about our relationship โ€“ only Paul. We both had dreams. Young and fearless, we shouted slogans, aspiring to become stars in our fields. Unfortunatelyโ€ฆ I ruined her future. I can't face her." Regret filled Lizzie's eyes as she spoke of the past.
