Chapter 1170
The dining table overflowed with Skylar's favorite dishes. It was their first family meal together in three years.
“This is so delicious! Steven, Charles, and Harvey, your cooking has really improved, and Mom’s dishes are as amazing as ever,” Skylar exclaimed, barely pausing between bites.
In Murida, having maids readily available provided any Flaon cuisine she desired, yet it lacked the familiar taste of home. Over the past three years, everyone had endured much, staying connected through daily video calls. However, nothing compared to being together in person. Janine's heart ached as she noticed Skylar's significant weight loss.
“Eat more,” she urged.
“Okay,” Skylar replied, obediently piling her plate with more mashed potatoes. She consumed three servings, feeling completely satisfied.
After the meal, the family chatted and enjoyed each other's company until nightfall. Charles eventually drove her back to Galaxy Villa. After three and a half years, she paused at the entrance.
Everywhere, she saw remnants of her life with Joe. Everything remained precisely as it had been three years prior—clean and meticulously kept. Had it not been for the intervening years, she might have felt as though nothing had changed at all. It felt like stepping back three years, to a time when Joe was still by her side.
Quickly dismissing these thoughts, Skylar went inside and upstairs. She had just settled into bed after showering when Gloria called internationally.
“Edgar mentioned you’re staying at Galaxy Villa while in Jipsburg. Please be careful alone, and don’t forget to activate the house’s security system,” Gloria said with concern.
Skylar found comfort in Gloria's voice. “During my time away, please take care of yourself, Grandma. Remember to follow the doctor’s advice and take your medicine on time.”
“Alright, alright. We’ll both take care of ourselves. Focus on your own matters, and if anything comes up, just reach out to Alexander and George for help.”
“Okay, Grandma.” They reassured each other and ended the call.
Initially, Skylar wasn’t tired. But as she lay in bed, she drifted off to sleep. In a half-dream, she saw the familiar mist again. She raised her hand to dispel the fog. Amidst the swirling chaos, a figure materialized. Recognizing the familiar silhouette, her heart leaped.
“Joe…” she whispered, hurrying towards him. As she approached, she hoped it was truly him. To her surprise, he turned. His features were undeniably Joe’s.
But when he looked at her, it felt as though he was gazing at a stranger. His eyes held no emotion. He simply stared, as if hearing her call.
