Chapter 1202
Ned and Skylar locked eyes. Skylarโs eyes filled with tears, uncontrollable emotions welling up. She waited for his response. Nedโs gaze was deep and unreadable, seemingly devoid of emotion, yet he held her gaze unusually long. Something about her sparked a strange familiarity within him; he felt he should know her, though logic dictated otherwise. Perhaps it was the fragility in her tear-filled eyes, evoking a sense of pity.
โNedโฆโ Rosa called gently.
Ned gave Skylar one last deep look before turning away. โI grew up in Murida,โ he said firmly.
Skylarโs body stiffened. Shortly after, Ned and Rosa joined the conversation, and the unsettling moment was quickly forgotten by the crowd. Only when Caleb and Rowan whispered to her did Skylar emerge from her daze. Glancing at them, she murmured, โIโm fine.โ
Caleb and Rowan were astonished. No one could have anticipated finding someone so exactly like Joe; they were like twins. Even they were shaken by the resemblanceโNed looked just like Joe. But having grown up in Murida, he couldn't be Joe.
โAre you sure youโre okay? We can leave if you want,โ Caleb offered, his tone concerned. He wasn't enjoying the gala and was ready to depart.
Skylar shook her head. โNo need. Iโll stay until the end.โ Her gaze drifted back to Ned. The intensity of her look seemed to stir hostility in Rosa. Their eyes met, and Rosaโs face tightened into a guarded, icy expression.
Chapter 1202
Skylar felt a pressure on her chest, making it hard to breathe. โDo you want to step outside for some fresh air?โ Aiken appeared beside her, his voice soft and concerned.
Skylar nodded. โOkay.โ
They went to the rooftop. Compared to the bustling event below, the rooftop was quiet and peaceful. The cool evening breeze eased the weight suffocating her.
โWould you like something to eat?โ Aiken asked.
Skylar shook her head. โI had cake. Iโm not hungry. Donโt worry.โ
โGood. Ned and Joe really do look alike. If he hadnโt denied it, everyone would believe heโs Joe,โ Aiken said softly.
Skylarโs thoughts wandered. โYeah, theyโre really alike.โ Their height, features, and voices were identical. She wondered if two people could look so much alike.
Aiken noticed her distraction and remained silent. After hearing Ned's denial, Skylar found it hard to accept. She had been so hopeful, only to have those hopes dashed. Anyone would struggle with that.
About ten minutes later, Skylarโs phone pinged with a WhatsApp message from Minerva, asking about her and offering company. Skylar glanced at her phone; it was 7:00 pm. The auction was about to begin.
