Chapter 1204

As soon as Rosa spoke, the departing group cast curious glances their way. Rowan, known for his boldness and unfazed by anyone in Jipsburg, chuckled lightly at Rosa's comment. "Why do I get the feeling you're afraid of something, Ms. Reese?" He surmised her reluctance to be disturbed referred to Skylar, a suspicion that intrigued him. He wondered if she feared Skylar's beauty might enchant Ned.

"What do I have to be afraid of?" Rosa asked, furrowing her brow. She disliked both the tearful woman and Rowan, harboring a persistent feeling they would somehow take Ned away. Seeing he'd provoked enough, Rowan glanced at Ned before departing, his mood soured by a jumble of unsorted emotions. He felt certain Ned's true identity would be revealed after the charity gala. It was a pity for Skylar; meeting Ned today would only cause her more pain.

Watching Rowan leave, Rosa bit her lip. "He's so rude," she murmured to Ned. The gala had soured her impression of everyone present. Seeing Ned lost in thought, his expression serious, she asked with concern, "Ned, are you feeling unwell? Do you want to go to the hospital?"

Ned frowned. "No need," he replied.

"Alright then. Let's head back to the hotel to rest," Rosa said. She knew Ned disliked hospitals. His headaches and insomnia had worsened over the past two years, unresponsive even to sleeping pills. Several hospital visits had fostered a strong aversion. While he'd resisted previous visits, her insistence had prevailed, though doctors could only alleviate his headaches, offering little help for his insomnia.

A sudden wave of unease washed over Rosa. She felt they shouldn't linger in Jipsburg City. After getting into the car, she said to Ned, "I really don't like this place. Can we leave soon? I prefer being at home rather than staying in a hotel. It's much more comfortable."

Ned, seemingly in pain, replied, "Sorry, I didn't catch what you said."

"Iโ€ฆ It's nothing. I'm just worried your headache will get worse. I asked around and found a doctor who specializes in acupuncture," Rosa quickly changed the subject, relieved he hadn't heard her earlier apprehension. This trip was always intended to be short; they would leave after signing the contract, replaced by a branch office manager. She'd anticipated enjoying Jipsburg's scenery, but now... she took a deep breath, pushing those thoughts aside, hoping for no further complications during their stay.

After they drove off, Aiken's car followed.
